Star Fleet Battles Patrol Tournament * Star Fleet Battles
Event Code: SFB * $5
Game Master: Ken Kazinski * 40 Players * E10

Star Fleet Battles is an intricate game of ship-to-ship combat in the classic Star Trek universe (the one Kirk explored). Several other races have been added for variety. Tournament battles are like tense chess matches, with each player trying to bring his ship's strengths to bear. Last year's tournament was once again the largest in the whole country, and we expect great attendance again this year. You can change your ship mid-tournament, but you will need to pay a new $5 to re-enter.
SFB starts right at 9am on Friday when the doors open. Fight patrol battles all weekend, until we start the finals on Saturday evening at 7pm. Semi-finals and Finals will be Sunday.
To make it easier for you to try the game if you're interested, look in your registration packet for a coupon to play the first game free. If you'd like to continue in the tournament, you can pay to enter. But if you'd just like to learn a new game, it's on us.

Conflict of Heroes - Weekend Tournament * Conflict of Heroes WW2
Event Code: COH * $5
Game Master: Aaron Cordes * 32 Players * Teen14

The SWA is happy to be sponsoring its first (and hopefully annual) Conflict of Heroes tournament. We will be offering some excellent prizes, courtesy of Academy Games. The tournament winner will have his name appear one of the leader cards in the upcoming Gaudalcanal game!
There will be four Swiss scoring rounds - Friday slot C and Saturday slots D, E, and F. You do not need to play every round in order to qualify (though it will help your overall score). Our scoring system will account for players who miss rounds. The top two players after Saturday night will compete for the championship on Sunday morning at 9am (Slot G). But all players are welcome play the final scenario during slot G. We will have a mixture of published (2) and custom scenarios (3).
Conflict of Heroes is an excellent, relatively new WW2 squad-level board game. It has a lot of the "feel" of Squad Leader, but the all the rules currently published fit on only 24 pages. It has won multiple Origins awards for "Best New Game", and it's earned quite a following among some of us SWA guys.
Players who do not want to compete in the tournament may play during a single Swiss scoring round (slots C-F) for free. There are also free warm-up games on Friday morning and afternoon (events A-Board-1 and B-Board-1).
SPECIAL REQUEST: If we get a good turnout, we will be stretched thin on game resources. We are hoping that players attending mainly for the CoH tournament will bring their maps & counters. We are assuming that if you love this game enough to play a weekend-long tournament, you have at least one of the sets. Please bring what you have; we may not need it, but we hope we do, as that will mean we had a great turnout! We are expecting players from all around the Northeast, and perhaps even beyond.
Watch the BGG forum (link below) for more details as we release new information. Sponsorship provided by Academy Games (please see their web link below for more info). Beginners encouraged.

All players will represent either the Order Hegemony or the Chaos Convergence. You will play in smaller individual skirmishes and fight in the huge multi-player Giant Rumble in the Saturday 7pm session. Players of all skill level are welcome. Bring your own army deck or use one provided by the GMs.
The first game is free to all players. If you want to play in multiple sessions of the campaign, a single $5 ticket will cover all your games (including the Friday 7pm Giant Rumble). You can play as many or as few sessions of the campaign as you'd like.

Roads to Moscow
B-Board-2 * $2
Game Master: Michael Haggett * 4 Players * Teen14

Learn how to play the latest release in Vance von Borries' Roads series. Roads to Moscow is a two-player game depicting battles in the Soviet Union during the drive on Moscow in October 1941. The two separate battles shown in this game are named for the main objective city on each map, Mozhaysk to the west of Moscow, and Mtsensk to the south. Perhaps the most dramatic of the many desperate battles fought in front of Moscow, these two battles combined all the elements of the great struggle. The Germans have an excellent fighting machine but are short on fuel and time. They must capture their objectives on a tight schedule or snow and mud will end their offensive. The Soviets are down to the rearward remnants of their once immense armies. If the Soviets can avoid being encircled by the fast moving German forces, high quality reinforcements from the Far East may finally allow them to stop the German advance. Historically, the Soviets stood fast at Mozhaysk, fighting heavily even on the old Napoleonic battlefield of Borodino. Like Napoleon, the Germans eventually took the field, but at great cost in time and manpower. Near Mtsensk Guderian's Panzer spearhead advancing north from Orel was ambushed by the Soviets thereby disrupting the German timetable. This gave the Soviet 6th Guards Rifle Division time to dig-in on the heights above Mtsensk thereby barring the way to Tula and Moscow. Roads to Moscow uses the same mechanics found in the acclaimed Roads to Leningrad game, featuring a chit draw for activation of formations. Both players quickly learn how to use their motorized units effectively for overruns, combined arms, and movement of reserves. The game includes special rules for Soviet rocket artillery, NKVD, and self-propelled gun units, and fuel supply shortages, and much more, all without overwhelming play of the game. Beginners encouraged.

Agricola
B-Board-5 * $2
Game Master: Malachi Martin * 5 Players * Teen14

Agricola is the Latin word meaning "farmer" and that's exactly the role you will take on in this game. You and your husband (or you and your wife, depending on your situation) start out in a two room wooden hut. After that, it's up to you to go out and plow your fields, plant wheat and/or vegetables, put up fences for pastures, collect livestock, and possibly have some kids to help with the labour (hint: that's a good idea). The number one goal, however, is to make sure you can feed the people. At the end of the game, if you've built a better farm than your opponents, you will have won the farming! Beginners encouraged.

Archipelago
B-Board-6 * $2
Game Master: Michael Russman * 4 Players * Teen14

From BGG: In Archipelago, players are Renaissance European powers competing in the exploration of a Pacific or Caribbean archipelago. They will explore territories, harvest resources, use those resources in markets both internal (for their use and that of the natives) and foreign (to sell it in Europe), build markets, harbors, cities and temples, and negotiate among themselves (and maybe betray each other) - all this to complete their secret objectives. They will also need to guess the secret objective of the other players to be able to benefit from them.
But players also need to be careful of the natives; if they make them too unhappy or if too many of them are unoccupied, they could revolt and declare independence. Then everyone will lose! Beginners encouraged.

Stone Age - Style is the Goal
C-Board-5 * $2
Game Master: Kim Morgan * 5 Players * E10

In Stone Age, the players live in this time, just as our ancestors did. They collect wood, clay, stone and goal. They trade freely, expand their village and achieve new levels of civilization. Players use up to ten tribe members each in three phases. In the first phase, players place their men in regions of the board that they think will benefit them, including the hunt, the trading center, or the quarry. In the second phase, the starting player activates each of his staffed areas in whatever sequence he chooses, followed in turn by the other players. In the third phase, players must have enough food available to feed their populations, or they face losing resources or points. Beginners encouraged.

Wellington: The Peninsular War
C-Board-7 * $2
Game Master: Eric Alexopoulos * 4 Players * Teen14

In the spring of 1812 the armies of Napoleonic France were masters of continental Europe. Even as their emperor prepared for his epic invasion of Russia, Napoleon's marshals gathered their forces for one final campaign to subdue the last pockets of resistance to imperial rule. One man stood between them and the conquest of the Iberian Peninsula: an English general called Sir Arthur Wellesley, better known to history as the Duke of Wellington. We'll be playing the 1813 scenario (short game). Beginners encouraged.

die Macher (1998)
C-Board-8 * $2
Game Master: Steve Bachman * 5 Players * Mature18

2013 is an election year in Germany, so what better game to play than die Macher? Die Macher is Karl-Heinz Schmiel's game of German elections where each player takes the role of one of the five major political parties. The game is based on Germany's electoral system and includes elections in seven different regions of the country where seats in the Bundestag are won. The regional elections are determined by the local interests and by how each party aligns with those concerns. Success in the local elections strengthens one's position on the national stage, not only with seats in the Bundestag but also with influence over national priorities and the media. The winner will be the player who best utilizes their limited resources to maximize their national position. We will be using 1998 Moskito version of the game that was nominated for that year's Spiel des Jahres. The game is in German, but the components are largely language-independent and translations of the rules and scoresheets are available at BoardGameGeek. For those wishing to observe and absorb some real life political strategy, including the tactical use of coalitions, the German federal elections will be held on September 22nd this year. Beginners encouraged.

Le Havre is a worker placement game that takes place in the French harbor city of...Le Havre. Players utilize buildings via their workers in order to generate resources or upgrade their resources. Ships also play a big part of this game as they defray the food cost of your workers and enable the sale of your resources. Beginners encouraged.

Axis & Allies 1914 * Axis & Allies
C-Board-11 * $2
Game Master: Benjamin Bunday * 7 Players * Teen14

The long-awaited World War I version of Axis & Allies! In this War to End Wars, Shall Germany win its Place in the Sun, or will the World be Safe for Democracy? Help us decide. The biggest change in the A&A game system for WW1 is that land battles are only 1 combat round, and if both sides still have units after that round, the territory stays contested with neither side getting that territory's income. This leads to the static meatgrinder that we should expect. This game will be run with the latest errata and suggested rules changes from the game designer. These changes have been playtested at a few SWA Game-a-thons to improve balance, interest and realism, mainly thru the addition of land units moving an extra space when not involved in combat. Game will likely last until midnight or later, but as with all A&A games, one advantage is that if some players must go home early, the game can easily continue with as few as 2 players. We do not expect that a prospective player has played this version before, but we do request that players have at least a little experience with any one of the WW2 versions of A&A. Some knowledge of this rules system preferred.

Northeast Titan League Game * TITAN
C-Board-17 * $2
Game Master: Nick Klercker * 12 Players * Teen14

The Titan is the player's alter-ego, and the Titan's fate and the player's fate are one and the same. The game is divided into two realms, the masterboard and the battleboards. On the masterboard, legions of mythical creatures roam about trying to recruit bigger and badder monsters and kill opposing legions in the process. When a combat occurs, the space is "blown-up" by moving the action to the corresponding battleboard type. After lots of dice are tossed, the victor is returned to the masterboard with the spoils of war: points. Inexperienced players are very welcome. But this will count as an SWA Titan League game, so the results will be recorded and a time limit will be used. Some knowledge of this rules system preferred. Beginners encouraged.

D-Board-4 * $2
Game Master: Michael Haggett * 5 Players * Teen14

The Napoleonic Wars, 1805 - 1815, brings you a fast-paced, tension-filled, card-driven wargame using a point-to-point movement system that pushes the envelope in a new direction for this pivotal period of history. Having a simple-to-learn strategic system and short rulebook, The Napoleonic Wars, can be played in an evening as the cards and Diplomatic Track make for tough decision-making in the face of everchanging enemy threats. Set in 1805 Europe, you must weigh the strategic dilemmas facing the two alliances in mortal conflict. Napoleon's France enjoys a superb army, central position, superior leadership, and a useful, if not powerful, ally in Spain. However, she faces three foes. Napoleon must beware of Britain's seapower and wealth, Austria's threatening position, and Russia's reinforcing hordes. In the wings, Prussia, Turkey, and Sweden teeter on the brink of war, begging inducements to join either side. Even lowly Denmark's fleet can upset the balance of power. When fleets or armies collide, battle-related cards may be played and then dice are rolled to resolve the battle and inflict casualties. Even the most brilliant maneuver faces the chance of floundering. So play The Napoleonic Wars now, and put the strategist in you to the test. Your options are only limited by your vision, a meddlesome enemy's cards, and the hand of fate. Beginners encouraged.

In NORENBERC each player represents an ambitious merchant trying to gain influence in the town council of Norenberc. To do this, players must win over the craftsmen of the city's various guilds. The player who manages to win over the most (and the most influential) craftsmen will be the one who wins the game. Every round consists of one or more turns. Every turn, all players simultaneously select the guilds at which they wish to take actions, limited by the number of agents at their disposal. Actions include buying and selling goods and hiring guests who are lodging at the guilds: various craftsmen and also townsmen with useful special abilities. At the end of each round, the guild master of each guild will select a favorite from among the players: the one owning the most of that guild's goods. The favorite of each guild will claim the loyalty of its current guild master and earn one of that guild's crests. The most important guild in the city will also bestow one of the valuable prestige crests upon its favorite. At the end of the game, players will compare their amassed craftsmen, crests, money, and townsmen to see who has won the game! Beginners encouraged.

Game Master: Andy Roy & Chris Nichols * 10 Players * Teen14

Throughout the FedCom Civil War (3062-3067), many factions found themselves drawn into the conflict, taking sides with forces loyal to Victor Steiner-Davion, or his sister, Katrina. The Capellan Confederation used the war to its advantage by at first allying with Victor's forces, only to surprisingly attack the planet Tikonov in 3067. Prior to this time, the Capellans needed to work secretly to undermine Victor's forces, and not show their true intentions.
Eager to prove their worth and bolster their reputation, the Death Stalkers mercenaries have been taking on contracts of a less-than-honorable nature. They have recently accepted a contract to assist the Capellan Confederation on Tikonov by striking the forces of Victor Steiner-Davion, weakening them in advance of an all-out Capellan attack on the planet.
The mercenaries have been tasked to seek out and kill Colonel Kilgore, a strong and charismatic leader among the Davion 3rd Cavalry's top officers. Colonel Kilgore is rumored to be in an armored convoy, escorted by elements of the Davion Heavy Guard. If Kilgore can be slain, the effectiveness of the 3rd Cavalry's armored corps will be substantially reduced. But which armored vehicle is the colonel being transported in?
Join us for a large Classic Battletech game in which the forces of the Death Stalkers mercenaries attack a large armored convoy of the 3rd Davion Cavalry that is being escorted by elements of the Davion Heavy Guard. The mercenaries do not know which armored vehicle their target is in, and therefore must coordinate their attack before Colonel Kilgore can escape.
Painted battlemechs and tanks, spectacular 3-D terrain, pencils, dice, clipboards, mission briefings, and Battletech record sheets will all be provided.
Game experience will be extremely helpful, but not entirely necessary. This game will utilize miniatures rules published in FASA's Battletech Master Rules Revised Edition, as well as customized battle mechs and tanks created using WizKids' Heavy Metal Pro software.

Alone in our quest to combat the Wyrm, our numbers have been stretched and thinned, making us easy prey when we let our guard down. AND OUR RAGE GREW. Relic - Warhammer 40K Talisman
F-Board-9 * $2
Game Master: Troy Ferris * 4 Players * Teen14

Relic is a board game in which two to four players each assume the role of a powerful hero from the Warhammer 40,000 universe and bravely venture forth to shield the Antian Sector from certain doom. By completing missions and defeating enemies, characters compete to gain rewards and experience, furthering their chance of being the first to defeat whatever evil lies beyond the Warp rift. Building on the foundations of the Talisman system, Relic is an adventure game in which seemingly straightforward choices mask scores of possibilities. For those who haven't played the classic fantasy adventure game Talisman, this means that on each turn, a player rolls a single six-sided die before moving his playing piece that number of spaces clockwise or counter-clockwise around the region (outer, middle, or inner) of the board it currently occupies. That player then draws a card or cards to see what he's encountered, pitting his heroic persona against foul enemies, dangerous locations, and fantastic strangers. And all the while, these intrepid heroes rise in power, as they work their way toward the ultimate goal at the center of the board. Beginners encouraged.

This version is definitely the most extreme official A&A version to date, and time needs to be spent teaching the intricacies of the new additions and not the fundamentals of the basic game system. We'll be using some quasi-official rule updates and new setups to improve game balance, the Alpha+3 rule revisions and setup (or similar). If fewer than 4 players attend, the game can be scaled down to either one of the Europe or Pacific theaters or to A&A50 or A&A14, per agreement among the attending players.
PLEASE NOTE: This is a large game, which will span 2 back-to-back sessions on Sunday. Some knowledge of this rules system preferred.

Container: The Second Shipment
G-Board-5 * $2
Game Master: Steve Bachman * 5 Players * Teen14

Containers full of goods are produced by factories, sold to warehouses, sold to shippers, and then sold to consumers on a foreign island. Each player must: (1) decide how many factories they want and what types of products they will produce, and then (2) set the price of those products to attract potential buyers. Those buyers then (3) mark them up a little (or a lot!) and store them in their warehouses. Shippers then (4) purchase them and set sail for the foreign island where they will be auctioned to the highest bidder, or greedily hoarded by the Captain of the ship!
Sound simple enough? Well, the catch is that each transaction must be between two different players and each type of container is worth a different, unknown value to each player. What is extremely valuable to Player A may be worthless junk to Player B, but with five different types of goods there is no easy way to figure it out. Each container may go through up to 4 different players hands. What is the container worth to you, and more importantly... how much is it worth to everyone else? Beginners encouraged.

Le Havre
G-Board-8 * $2
Game Master: Michael Moon * 6 Players * E10

n Le Havre, a player's turn consists of two parts: First, distribute newly supplied goods onto the offer spaces; then take an action. As an action, players may choose either to take all goods of one type from an offer space or to use one of the available buildings. Building actions allow players to upgrade goods, sell them or use them to build their own buildings and ships. Buildings are both an investment opportunity and a revenue stream, as players must pay an entry fee to use buildings that they do not own. Ships, on the other hand, are primarily used to provide the food that is needed to feed the workers. After every seven turns, the round ends: players' cattle and grain may multiply through a Harvest, and players must feed their workers. After a fixed number of rounds, each player may carry out one final action, and then the game ends. Players add the value of their buildings and ships to their cash reserves. The player who has amassed the largest fortune is the winner. Beginners encouraged.

Thrilling Naval Engagement! * Fistfull of Lead
H-Minis-1 * $2
Game Master: Mike Paine * 8 Players * E10

Later dispatches received in London show that the naval engagement on the Yangtze River is worthy to be numbered among the most daring acts of heroism of the British Navy.. The facts are that two merchants ships, which had been illegally commandeered by the Chinese general, Yangsen, were moored inshore with 300 Chinese soldiers and their British prisoners aboard. The Cockchafer was lying near, but practically out of action, sent in little gun- boats covered at point blank range by Chinese artillery and machine-guns.> Their total officers and crew did not number more than 120. Never- theless our men boarded the captured ships, and hand-to-hand fighting with the 300 Chinese occurred before the British prisoners could be released. The Daily Telegraph's diplomatic correspondent says: The little gun- boats ran the gauntlet of the numerous Chinese field batteries as well as machine-guns. The small party of sailors succeeded from their low decks in boarding merchant- men bristling with rifles and guns, and liberating the four officers, was in it- self a miracle. Beginners encouraged.
