Star Fleet Battles Open Community |

Submitted by DC on Wed, 02/09/2011 - 22:11.
Some of you might know that our annual convention, Council of Five Nations, hosts the largest face-to-face Star Fleet Battles tournament in the whole wide world. We get players from all around the Northeast, and every year we get a few from beyond (Australia, Canada, Iowa & California have been represented the past few years). The SWA also sponsors a separate, sub-domain web site, the Star Fleet Battles Open Community. This is a place for the SFB community to come together and discuss all the Star Fleet Universe (SFU) games like Star Fleet Battles, Federation Commander, Federation & Empire, Star Fleet Battle Force, and some others. We even discuss some non-SFU games like Squadron Strike. If these kinds of games are of interest to you, please click on the link above and check out the Star Fleet Battles Open Community site. |

My father, Roger J. Cheng, is a retired Atmospheric Science researcher. He spent almost all of his career at ASRC, the Atmospheric Science Research Center, affiliated with SUNY-Albany. He has put a lot of work into cataloging the highlights of his atmospheric science research and his career on a web site. http://www.rogerjcheng.com - The Micro-World in the Atmosphere Feel free to check it out. |

I just saw the original 1954 version of this movie on Turner Classic Movies (TCM). Even though the special effects can't hold a candle to what Hollywood does today, I gotta say, this movie has lost nothing over the years. For me at least, it holds all the wonder that it did when I originally saw it almost forty years ago. Be sure to check it out if you haven't done so. |

Warren Redlich is one of members of the Board of Directors of the SWA. A few of you might also know that he's a declared candidate in this year's election for Governor of New York. He recently gave a speech at a political rally. Warren talks about the main theme of his campaign - Stop Wasting Money. For those of you interested (it's pretty amusing), here's a YouTube link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YYvXdaD9y8s If you're even more interested, here is the link for the Warren Redlich for Governor campaign web site: http://wredlich.com/ny/ Enjoy. |

Movie Warning! |
|
Submitted by DC on Tue, 07/14/2009 - 19:39.
Beware! There is a movie called _In the Name of the King: A Dungeon Siege Tale_. This is a bad, bad movie. I guess it is based on a computer game? It is worse than something a bunch of unskilled gamer dudes would make with their home video camera and a copy of iMovie on a slow Mac. The special effects are only sub-mediocre, but the script is embarrassingly bad. Strangely, there are a lot of "big" name stars in it. |
