Chronological Event Listings for Council of Five Nations XXIX (2006)

Hmmm....  It seems like some Hard Drive Gremlins have eaten the HTML file archive from Council 29.  This is a simple re-creation of the chronological event listing, without all the nice formatting and stuff.  Our apologies; we hope you still find it interesting.

SFB “Rated Ace” Patrol Tournament * Star Fleet Battles
SFB * $ 5
Game Master: David Cheng * 40 Players
Star Fleet Battles is an intricate game of ship-to-ship combat in the classic Star Trek universe (the one Kirk explored). Several other races have been added for variety. Tournament battles are like tense chess matches, with each player trying to bring his ship’s strengths to bear. Last year’s tournament was once again one of the largest in the country, and we think we can award two Ace Cards this year. We’re going to start the con early, 10am on Friday, to get the Star Fleet stuff going. Fight patrol battles all weekend, until we start the finals either Saturday evening or night, depending up on enrollment. Prize support provided by Amarillo Design Bureau. Beginners encouraged.

There is no 'O' in Team * Dungeons & Dragons 3.5
A-RPG-1 * $ 2
Game Master: Chris Buono * 6 Players
In these peaceful times, life can get pretty boring. So during the month of October, King Leod the Rotund challenges one of his sons to an old fashioned game of “Capture the Flog”. This year it's Prince Urtal’s (a/k/a the Turtle) turn to find the palace flog. And in the true spirit of royalty, the Prince has hired someone to capture it for him. If last year's outcome is any reflection of how this year will go, it's gonna get ugly. So what if someone dies; it’s in service of the lord. Plus, it's all in good fun. The only question remaining - What’s a flog? Have you always wondered how good your own D&D gaming group is? Do you work well together? Then put it to the test. Your team of 4 to 6 players will compete against three other teams to see who can do the best. Choose one of four slots for your team. The best team wins the King’s appreciation and a kingly prize. Each player represents one of the five main factions involved in this power struggle - each with their own motives and objectives. Some factions may help your cause in order to help theirs, but they are not your allies per se. Sorting out when you should count on them and when you should not is part of the fun! The rules will be taught. However, players will have a lot on their plates in this game so familiarization with the rules before the session will help. Contact the GM at steve@swa-gaming.org for an electronic copy of the rules (also available online) as well as a copy of the clarifications that are to be included in the forthcoming release of the updated rulebook. Beginners encouraged.

These sophisticated computers were fully equipped with standard intelligence modules to handle any situation which might come up at the factory. Unfortunately, it was this intelligence that made it difficult to bear the months of routine maintenance which bored the computers to electronic tears. For years they had combated boredom by diversions, such as chess. But after several bagillion draws during the last tournament, the computers concluded they were too evenly matched. Then it happened... An archaic janitor robot's radio contact died. Using its rudimentary programming, the robot accidentally wandered into a grid manufacturing center. Players are in charge of national political parties, and must manage limited resources to help their party to victory. The winning party will have the most victory points after all the regional elections. But there are four different ways of scoring victory points. First, each regional election can supply ten to eighty victory points, depending on the size of the region and how well your party does in it. Second, if a party wins a regional election and has some media influence in the region, then the party will receive some media-control victory points. Third, each party has a national party membership which will grow as the game progresses and this will supply a fair number of victory points. Lastly, parties score some victory points if their party platform matches the national opinions at the end of the game. Beginners are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the rules beforehand. An English translation is available online or by emailing the GM at steve@swa-gaming.org. Beginners encouraged.
