Council of Five Nations XXXI

Chronological Event Listing

All Weekend

Rated Ace Patrol Tournament * Star Fleet Battles
SFB * $ 5
Game Master: David Cheng * 48 Players
Star Fleet Battles is an intricate game of ship-to-ship combat in the classic Star Trek universe (the one Kirk explored). Several other races have been added for variety. Tournament battles are like tense chess matches, with each player trying to bring his ship’s strengths to bear. Last year’s tournament was once again the largest in the whole country, and we think we can award two Ace Cards this year. We’re going to start the con early, 10am on Friday, to get the Star Fleet stuff going. Fight patrol battles all weekend, until we start the finals either Saturday evening or night, depending up on enrollment. If you change your ship mid-tournament, you need to pay a new $5 to re-enter. Semi-finals and Finals will be Sunday. Prize support provided by Amarillo Design Bureau.

The Council SFB tournament gets national attention, since it's so well attended.  You can follow (or join in on) the discussion on the ADB discussion boards here.

To make it easier for you to try the game if you're interested, look in your on-site registration packet for a coupon to play the first game free. If you'd like to continue in the tournament, you can pay to enter. But if you'd just like to learn a new game, it's on us. Beginners encouraged.

Today’s mission was supposed to be simple: a quick snatch and grab of a local militia leader and then back to base for supper. However, the shooting down of an Imperial Black Hawk transport has forced the Guard to forego their original mission in order to secure the crash site. But time is short, and hundreds of hostile militia are advancing toward the crash site, threatening to overwhelm the Imperial Guard before a rescue effort can be organized. The Guard‚ s only hope is that air strikes and the coming of night can help keep the militia at bay until the rescue convoy arrives. Can the Imperials hold out and escape, or will the militia overrun them and deal yet another political and moral blow to the Imperium? Join us for a large Warhammer 40,000 battle in which Imperial Guard forces attempt to secure the crash site, hold off hundreds of enemy militia, and await rescue by an inbound armored convoy. This game will utilize the newly published 5th Edition rules for Warhammer 40,000, as well as rules unique to the scenario. Due to the size and length of the game, it is scheduled in two slots, so please plan accordingly. It is also highly recommended that players view the film or read the book Black Hawk Down, as many themes from the actual 1993 battle of Mogadishu have been incorporated into this scenario. Game Master: Ralph Mabb * 6 Players
The object of Power Grid is to supply the most cities with power when someone's network gains a predetermined size. In this new edition, players mark pre-existing routes between cities for connection, and then vie against other players to purchase the power plants that you use to supply the power. However, as plants are purchased, newer more efficient plants become available so you're potentially allowing others to access to superior equipment merely by purchasing at all. Additionally, players must acquire the raw materials, like coal, oil, garbage, or uranium, to power said plants (except for the highly valuable 'renewable energy' wind/solar plants), making it a constant struggle to upgrade your plants for maximum efficiency while still retaining enough wealth to quickly expand your network to get the cheapest routes. Event Descriptions

The Plots Come Full Circle

2008 marks the end of the Living Greyhawk campaign; bring your hardiest characters to the epic conclusions of the storylines so many players have come together to create and enjoy. We will offer the conclusion arc for the Kingdom of Keoland, as it faces the darkest hour in its history, with an army approaching the until-now-inviolate center of the Kingdom, daring to confront the Lion Throne at Niole Dra. We are also offering the intrigues of Honor Among Thieves, the twisting plots which will turn the wheel of the great ship of state of the Gem of the Flanaess. Finally, we will offer the world-shaking (perhaps even world-rending!) adventures in the Ascension arc, as Old Wicked shapes his plans and ambitions for all the world.

And a new cycle begins

2008 also marks the beginning of the Living Forgotten Realms campaign, returning to the world of Faerun for a new generation of play, featuring the new 4th Edition Dungeons and Dragons game. We will offer a full track of Living Forgotten Realms adventures, including a very special event.

This year at Council of Five Nations, we are privileged to be among the two conventions able to offer the Northeast region's premiere of a special Living Forgotten Realms adventure, SPEC1-1 Whispers of the Zhentarim. This adventure premiered at GenCon 2008, and will only be available to play at conventions until 2009! Sign up early so that we can prepare enough judges for this special event!

Jonathan Choy, our RPGA Czar , has lined up a great weekend of RPGA D&D sanctioned events.
