SFB Tournament * Star Fleet Battles
SFB * $ 5
Game Master: Ken Kazinski * 42 Players * Teen14
Star Fleet Battles is an intricate game of ship-to-ship combat in the classic Star Trek universe (the one Kirk explored). Several other races have been added for variety. Tournament battles are like tense chess matches, with each player trying to bring his ship’s strengths to bear. Last year’s tournament was once again the largest in the whole country, and we expect record attendance this year. If you change your ship mid-tournament, you need to pay a new $5 to re-enter.
We’re going to start the con early, 10am on Friday, to get the Star Fleet stuff going. Fight patrol battles all weekend, until we start the quarterfinals on Saturday evening. Semi-finals and Finals will be Sunday.
To make it easier for you to try the game if you're interested, look in your registration packet for a coupon to play the first game free. If you'd like to continue in the tournament, you can pay to enter. But if you'd just like to learn a new game, it's on us. Beginners encouraged.

From goblins burning down one of your settlements to dragons destroying one whole turn's worth of victory points, you will need to find ways to protect your settlement. Board Games

Agricola
B-Board-1 * $ 2
Game Master: Amanda Rofe * 5 Players * Teen14
Agricola is the Latin word meaning "farmer" and that's exactly the role you will take on in this game. You and your husband (or you and your wife, depending on your situation) start out in a two room wooden hut. After that, it's up to you to go out and plow your fields, plant wheat and/or vegetables, put up fences for pastures, collect livestock, and possibly have some kids to help with the labour (hint: that's a good idea). The number one goal, however, is to make sure you can feed the people. At the end of the game, if you've built a better farm than your opponents, you will have won the farming!
This game will be played using the E-Deck only, barring unanimous agreement from all of the players. Rules will be taught; beginners encouraged. Beginners encouraged.

Come play on one of the new edition game boards supplied by the GameMaster. Beginners encouraged.

Connect New York to Chicago, earn the most money, develop bigger and faster locomotives and maybe even span North America and build the Transcontinental Railway! This base game is a revised version of Eagle Games' Railroad Tycoon. Several expansions (Mexico, Western US, Europe, and England and Wales) are available if players wish to try them. Through the Ages
B-Board-6 * $ 2
Game Master: Mike Russman * 8 Players * Teen14
Through the Ages is a civilization building game. The goal is to develop your civilization, not to destroy other ones. Military strength is just one aspect of your nation, as well as population, production or science. It is up to you which aspect you will concentrate on, more or less, but you should not underestimate any of them while building your civilization.
Victory is achieved by the player whose nation produces the most culture during the game. However, there are many ways to produce culture: through religion, literature or drama, by building wonders, by utilizing cultural persons, etc. Considerable amount of culture can be gained even via wars or #aggression. Beginners encouraged. Beginners encouraged.

Twilight Imperium
B-Board-7 * $ 2
Game Master: Stephen Kent * 6 Players * Teen14
Twilight Imperium Third Edition is an epic empire-building game of interstellar conflict, trade, and struggle for power. Players take the roles of ancient galactic civilizations, each seeking to seize the imperial throne via warfare, diplomacy, and technological progression. With geomorphic board tiles, exquisite plastic miniatures, hundreds of cards, and introducing a rich set of strategic dimensions that allows each player to refocus their game-plan. The strategic game-play borrows the governing element from 'Puerto Rico' to involve players in an iteratively complex and yet fast-paced game experience with very little downtime. The game map, basic player progress and overall victory are dynamically determined in almost exactly the same way as they are by imaginative players of 'Settlers of Catan', while the "Command" system cleverly improves on the 'oil' logistical mechanism of 'Attack' to both manage turn-based activity and limit the size of armies, uniquely enabling weakened players to bounce back if they play their cards right.
PLEASE NOTE: Players should be aware that this is a long game and can be expected to go past 11 PM. Some knowledge of this rules system preferred.

Wellington: the Peninsular War * Card Driven Wargame
B-Board-8 * $ 2
Game Master: Eric Alexopoulos * 4 Players * Teen14
In the spring of 1812 the armies of Napoleonic France were masters of continental Europe. Even as their emperor prepared for his epic invasion of Russia, Napoleon's marshals gathered their forces for one final campaign to subdue the last pockets of resistance to imperial rule. One man stood between them and the conquest of the Iberian Peninsula: an English general called Sir Arthur Wellesley, better known to history as the Duke of Wellington. Beginners encouraged.

Survive: Escape from Atlantis with expansions * Survive: Escape from Atlantis
B-Board-9 * $ 2
Game Master: Brian Gass * 6 Players * Teen14
Survive is a cutthroat game where players seek to evacuate their pieces from an island that is breaking up, while remembering where their highest-valued pieces are located to maximize their score.
An island made up of 40 hex-tiles is slowly sinking into the ocean (as the tiles are removed from the board). Each player controls ten people (valued from 1 to 6) that they try and move towards the safety of the surrounding islands before the main island finally blows up. Players can either swim or use boats to travel but must avoid sea serpents, whales and sharks on their way to safety.
Survive is very similar to Escape from Atlantis with some key differences.
Survive was reprinted as "Survive: Escape from Atlantis!" by publisher Stronghold Games and hit store shelves in February, 2011. The reprint contains the game Survive, as well as all the extra pieces needed in order to play the game as "Escape from Atlantis". Beginners encouraged.

A Lot of Power on Tiny Island * Power Grid - Japan
B-Board-10 * $ 2
Game Master: Brad Morgan * 6 Players * E10
The object of Power Grid is to supply the most cities with power when someone's network gains a predetermined size. In this new edition, players mark pre-existing routes between cities for connection, and then bid against each other to purchase the power plants that they use to power their cities.
However, as plants are purchased, newer, more efficient plants become available, so by merely purchasing, you're potentially allowing others access to superior equipment.
Additionally, players must acquire the raw materials (coal, oil, garbage, and uranium) needed to power said plants (except for the 'renewable' windfarm/ solar plants, which require no fuel), making it a constant struggle to upgrade your plants for maximum efficiency while still retaining enough wealth to quickly expand your network to get the cheapest routes.
Japan Variant - Based on the crowded geographical surroundings, the players can start two separate networks in Japan. The first connections are restricted to certain cities, guaranteeing a tough fight for the best networks. Beginners encouraged.

B-Board-11 * $ 2

Players compete to build the most famous hotel / casino. Room tiles representing slot machines, lounges, restaurants, and other casino-related places appear on a central board and the players hold auctions to win the rights to have those rooms in their building, garnering them income, population, or fame. Bidding wars escalate, values fluctuate, and designers renovate until finally the hotel/casinos are put to the test to determine whose garners the most fame. Beginners encouraged.

Most of what they do. Not all.
The crimes that aren't just human stupidity, or human greed, or human anything, are the purview of OCU Squad 4. The very unfortunate members of the NYPD who know that not all evil has a human face, that humans are not the first nor the last beings on this planet, and that world is not all it appears to be. Bomb Alley - The Battle of San Carlos Bay * Check Your 6 -- Jet Age
B-Minis-3 * $ 2
Game Master: Andy Roy & Chris Nichols * 7 Players * Teen14
On May 21st 1982, the British launched Operation Sutton, the landings at San Carlos on East Falkland. The British goal was to put ashore a large enough force to recapture the Falkland Islands from Argentina.
The Argentine response was swift. Wave after wave of attack aircraft from the Argentine mainland swept into San Carlos regularly over the next six days, bombing and strafing the British surface fleet and landing craft. Flying at sea level and 450+ knots, the pilots of the Fuerza Aérea Argentina and Comando de Aviación Naval Argentina struck the British fleet, in an almost suicidal display of piloting skill and courage.
In addition to braving AAA fire and SAMs from the surface vessels, the Argentines were frequently challenged by the British NAS Squadrons 800 and 801, flying the deadly Sea Harrier. Any hope for the successful landing rested in the Royal Navy's ability to halt the marauding Argentine aircraft.
Join us for a large game of Check Your 6 Jet Age, in which pilots of the Fuerza Aérea Argentina (FAA) and Comando de Aviación Naval Argentina (COAN) attempt to disrupt the British landings at San Carlos Bay. Opposing them shall be NAS Harriers and several capital ships of the British fleet.
Painted & detailed 1/300 scale aircraft, 3-D terrain, pencils, dice, clipboards, quick reference charts, and aircraft record sheets will all be provided. Game experience will be extremely helpful, but not entirely necessary. The game's complex rules and mechanics will be taught. We ask that players be age 14+ please. Beginners encouraged.

Container * Auction style
C-Board-3 * $ 2
Game Master: Benjamin Maggi * 5 Players * Teen14
Containers full of goods are produced by factories, sold to warehouses, sold to shippers, and then sold to consumers on a foreign island. Each player must: (1) decide how many factories they want and what types of products they will produce, and then (2) set the price of those products to attract potential buyers. Those buyers then (3) mark them up a little (or a lot!) and store them in their warehouses. Shippers then (4) purchase them and set sail for the foreign island where they will be auctioned to the highest bidder, or greedily hoarded by the Captain of the ship!
Sound simple enough? Well, the catch is that each transaction must be between two different players and each type of container is worth a different, unknown value to each player. What is extremely valuable to Player A may be worthless junk to Player B, but with five different types of goods there is no easy way to figure it out. Each container may go through up to 4 different players hands. What is the container worth to you, and more importantly... how much is it worth to everyone else? Beginners encouraged.

The players are plantation owners in Puerto Rico in the days when ships had sails. Growing up to five different kind of crops√¢ corn, indigo, sugar, tobacco, and coffee√¢ they must try to run their business more efficiently than their close competitors: growing crops and storing them efficiently, developing San Juan with useful buildings, deploying their colonists to best effect, selling crops at the right time, and, most importantly, shipping their goods back to Europe for maximum benefit.
The game system lets players choose the order of the phases in each turn by allowing each player to choose a role from those remaining when it is their turn. No role can be selected twice in the same round. The player who selects the best roles to advance their position during the game will win. Beginners encouraged.

War of the Ring
C-Board-11 * $ 2
Game Master: Matthew Barker * 4 Players * Teen14
War of the Ring is an epic board game that allows the players to simulate the events of the Lord of the Rings on a strategic level. The armies of shadow win by conquering those who oppose the rule of Sauron, and the armies of the free peoples win by either achieving a military victory on the field, or by holding out long enough for the ring bearer to complete his quest.
We will be using the Multiplayer variant which will split each side of the war into cooperative factions. New Players will benefit from reading the rule book ahead of time. Beginners encouraged.

Airlines Europe
C-Board-12 * $ 2
Game Master: Jeremy Olson * 5 Players * E10
At its heart, Airlines Europe is a stock game, with players earning points for the stock they hold in particular airline companies when one of the randomly determined scorings takes place. On a player's turn, that player either expands an airline and claims a stock, plays stock onto the board and receives dividend, invests in a special airline called Air ABACUS or gets a certain amount of money from the bank. A player scores only for stock in play, but the value of an airline is determined by the value of the route licences that airline owns - thus, you're torn in terms of what to play when. Beginners encouraged.

Between a Rock and a Hard Place * Classic Battletech
C-Minis-5 * $ 2
Game Master: Chris Nichols & Andy Roy * 10 Players * Teen14
The FedCom Civil War is over. Katherine Steiner-Davion, her forces defeated and loyalists scattered, has been held prisoner on Arc-Royal for several months. Katherine's brother, Victor, is soon to abdicate his hard-won throne to his siblings, Peter and Yvonne. Meanwhile, his victorious forces lie idle, awaiting orders.
Khan Vladmir Ward recently visited Arc-Royal, and for unknown reasons, demanded the extradition of Katherine to Clan Wolf. If the deposed princess is not handed over to Clan Wolf, the Khan vows to initiate hostilities against the Federated Commonweath. This threat has been taken even more seriously, since the Truce of Tukayyid expired several months ago, and the Khan is no longer honor bound to restrain his forces.
Khan Ward's motivations for demanding the extradition of Katherine are unclear, but his threat to attack the Federated Commonwealth is not. While Victor and his High Council waste time debating over whether to hand Katherine over to the Khan, several high-ranking military leaders of the Davion Heavy Guard have decided to take matters into their own hands. They shall strike deep into the heart of Clan Wolf space, destroying a valuable mech production facility located on a hostile moon appropriately called "The Rock." With a severely reduced capacity to make war, perhaps Khan Vladmir will see the error in his ways.
Join us for a large Battletech game in which the Davion Heavy Guard of the Federated Commonwealth assaults a Clan Wolf mech production facility on a hostile moon called "The Rock." Special rules for low gravity, lava flows, volcanic activity, and hostile atmosphere will be in effect.
Painted battle mechs, spectacular 3-D terrain, pencils, dice, clipboards, mission briefings, and Battletech record sheets will all be provided.
Game experience will be extremely helpful, but not entirely necessary. This game will utilize miniatures rules published in FASA's Battletech Master Rules Revised Edition, and a number of customized battle mechs created using WizKids' Heavy Metal Pro software. Players ages 14+ only, please. Beginners encouraged.

On a turn, you get to take only two actions, one for you and one for the spouse, from all the possibilities you'll find on a farm: collecting clay, wood, or stone; building fences; and so on. You might think about having kids in order to get more work accomplished, but first you need to expand your house. And what are you going to feed all the little rugrats? I have pimped out my copy with wooden pieces that are a very cool addition to the game. I also have the expansion, Farmers of the Moor, that we can use if we play with only experienced players. Mystic Wood and Settlers Jr * Board Games for Kids
D-Board-8 * $ 2
Game Master: Jessica Kent * 4 Players * Kids * Child
Mystic Wood: Players are knights seeking to perform a particular quest (varies with each knight) in order to win the game. Exploration and adventure are created by the game board being made up of randomly placed tiles which are uncovered as the knights reach them. Tiles can be fixed locations or glades where a randomly chosen role card can reveal a spell or a denizen. Denizens act in different ways, depending upon its nature or the throw of a die. Some help the knights, others hinder. Players compete against each other, but can also work together to defeat a denizen. The first knight to complete his or her quest and exit the Mystic Wood wins the game.
Catan Jr: Explore the seas! Catan: Junior introduces a modified playing style of the classic Settlers of Catan, giving players as young as five a perfect introduction to the Catan series of games.
Catan: Junior takes place on a ring of islands where 2 to 4 players build hideouts and encounter the mysterious Spooky Island, where the Ghost Captain lives. Each island generates a specific resource: wood, goats, molasses or swords, and players can acquire gold. Each player starts with two pirate hideouts on different islands, and they can use the resources they acquire to build ships, hideouts or get help from Coco the Parrot. By building ships, they can expand their network; the more hideouts they build, the more resources they may receive. Just watch out for the dreaded Ghost Captain! Be the first player to control seven pirate hideouts, and you win! Beginners encouraged.

Close Action - Spanish Treasure! * Close Action
D-Minis-5 * $ 2
Game Master: Dan Bostwick * 8 Players * E10
Close Action is a tactical simulation of naval combat in the Age Of Fighting Sail, using realistic movement, combat, and limited communications rules.
The Battle of Cape Santa Maria (also known as the Battle of Cape St Mary; in Spanish Batalla del Cabo de Santa Maria) was a naval action that took place off the southern Portuguese coast on 5 October 1804. A British squadron under the command of Commodore Graham Moore attacked a Spanish squadron commanded by Brigadier Don Jose de Bustamante y Guerra, in time of peace, without declaration of war between the UK and Spain. Legally an act of piracy, this action was taken because the British government was convinced that the Spanish would declare war as soon as the fleet - which was carrying the annual treasure from the New World - was safe.
This famous action has been written about in the C.S. Forester's Horatio Hornblower and in Patrick O'Brien's Aubrey Maturin books. Join this august company, and come fight it out for yourself!

Rolling Freight
G-Board-4 * $ 2
Game Master: James Wilhelm * 5 Players * Teen14
Rolling Freight is a new train game that takes place over three stages starting in the Reconstruction Era and progressing into the early twentieth century. In this game, players complete routes that they have purchased a contract to build, upgrade their train companies, and deliver cargo. These aspects are not all that different from many train games, but there are two elements that really set this game apart from the others in its genre. First, all the actions that are taken during your turn are paid for with dice. Most actions require "generic dice" for which any face can be used, so the amount of chance involved is kept to a minimum. Second, there are two different types of cargo - express and economy. The two types give additional bonuses for moving them over fewer or more links, respectively. In all, the combination of familiar and new mechanics make for a very innovative and entertaining game. Rules will be taught; beginners encouraged. Beginners encouraged.

Container: The Second Shipment * Container
G-Board-6 * $ 2
Game Master: Steve Bachman * 5 Players * Teen14
Produce, Warehouse, and Ship products to market. Sound easy enough? The catch is that you have to entice others to buy your product every step of the way - you can't do it all on your own.
In these tight economic game, players work together to build a robust shipping industry. Splitting profits with your opponents is the game's core, but a 50-50 split will not likely score you the victory. Can you squeeze a little more out of it than the rest?
We have the expansion, The Second Shipment, available for play and may include portions of it - Luxury Items, Economy of Scale, Corporate Financing, and Monopolies - based on player experience and preference.

G-RPGA * $ 2
Game Master: RPGA GMs * 12 Players * E10
RPGA D&D took a little break from the Council schedule last year, but we’re happy to see it back.
Living Forgotten Realms events in this time slot:

CORE 4-2 Legacy
Two years ago a child was born from such unusual parentage that she has attracted attention from well beyond the reclusive hamlet where her parents lived. Powerful forces both new and ancient endanger the child's welfare. A Living Forgotten Realms adventure set in Narfell for characters of the Heroic tier (levels 1-10). This adventure stands on its own, but it is also a sequel to CORE2-05 The Black Card. Play of the prior adventure is neither required nor assumed.

AGLA 2-3 Sojourner’s Way
The Tannath Mountains are poorly explored and even more poorly mapped. A humble cartographer seeks adventuring companions for his attempt to blaze a trail through these rough, steep spires. What would drive a man to undertake such a dangerous task? A Living Forgotten Realms adventure set in Aglarond for characters levels 1-4 (H1 level band). This adventure is the second part of the Invisible Road Major Quest, which began in AGLA1-5 Silver Lining and will conclude with a Heroic tier adventure during campaign year 4.

Please use the event code above (G-RPGA) to purchase a ticket for any RPGA game in this time slot. And, please use the Warhorn.net registration page to reserve a spot in a specific game (link below). This helps us plan to have enough GMs for each time slot. Beginners encouraged.

Miniatures

First Class Ticket * Modified Fist Full of Lead
G-Minis-1 * $ 2
Game Master: Mike Paine * 8 Players * E10
Your mission is simple. You are the ground commander and will support Captain Collins in the Yorktown. Chinese bandits have closed the Yangtze by blocking all large vessel river traffic at Tianxing Island. Additionally, they destroyed the US Mission at China Light. Over 50 Americans were massacred including 8 French engineers building a new dock under contract to the Navy. Your command has been reinforced by the 4th US Marines. You will advance up the Old Imperial Highway with part of your command while the rest will ride in fast river barges escorted by the Yorktown. That's all we can spare.
Your rules of engagement have not changed. You are to restore the peace and rescue American citizens who are being held for ransom by Chinese Warlord bandits. If attacked, make them pay. Recapture the mission and hold until relieved. Conflict with the Chinese, when not absolutely necessary for fulfilling your mission, is to be avoided.
By the way, “First Class Ticket” is Chinese bandit talk for a foreign victim, who by default had to be worth a good ransom. Beginners encouraged.

Draft Tourney * Battleground: Fantasy Warfare
G-Minis-2 * $ 2
Game Master: Niko White * 16 Players * E10
Battleground: Fantasy Warfare is an excellent miniatures wargame that you play with 2D cards. You can carry a whole army around in your pocket! BFW and the related Battleground: Historical Warfare have been very popular at past SWA events.
Niko White, one of the BFW designers, has a fun new game format. Instead of constructing your army using standard point costs, all players pass around a common deck and draw cards.
Please note the Draft Tourney will run twice: Friday 7pm and Sunday 3pm - two chances for your fun!
All the details are on the Your Move Games web site. Please see the “Draft Format Variant” link below.
Niko will also be running “Win a deck” demos all weekend. Stop by the Battleground table to arrange a quick game.

Heroscape: War in Valhalla * Heroscape
G-Minis-3 * $ 2
Game Master: Jeremy Strickland & Dan Karabin * 4 Players * E10
Wage war in Valhalla! Test your mettle against armies from across time and apace on two different 3D maps. If you have your own Heroscape forces, you are welcome to bring a preset 510 point army (subject to the judge’s approval). No Marvel figures please. Beginners encouraged.

Supplemental Information for Pathfinder Society RPG Events

Pathfinders,

This will be our third year at the Schenectady Wargamers Association’s Council of Five Nations. Since this is our region's biggest gaming event we are making sure that Pathfinder Society is going to have a huge presence with over 50 tables. Every slot will have at least one scenario for each tier (1-5, 3-7, 5-9, & 7-11). There will be all three introduction scenarios for those just joining the Society. We will be closing out season 3 with all 8 of the Hao Jin Tapestry scenarios. Pathfinders will be getting their first taste of the wild lands of Varisia with the first 7 scenarios of season 4 scenarios including "Race for the Runecarved Key", this year's Battle Interactive. There will also be two tables of the Venture-Officer exclusive scenario, "The Cyphermage Dilemma"; one on Friday afternoon and the other Saturday afternoon.

In addition to these scenarios, there will be a number of other special Pathfinder events being run throughout the weekend, as well as contests to win and prizes to claim, including convention boons.

There are 3 full-length Society sanctioned modules scheduled for the convention if you are looking for some more in-depth adventuring. Friday characters will get a chance to test themselves against the best warriors in the world in "The Ruby Phoenix Tournament", Saturday will take Pathfinders into the "Realm of the Fellnight Queen", and Sunday players must uncover the secrets of "The Midnight Mirror".  Note: Modules take a least 2 slots of play to complete and may require players and GM's to miss out on breaks.

For kids around 6-12 years old, we will be offering a number of great Pathfinder introductory events. Friday evening kids will get to be a little crazy with the short module "We Be Goblins!" Saturday morning and afternoon, we will be running the 4 Pathfinder Kid's Track encounters, which were a huge hit at GenCon. After completing all 4 encounters each kid will receive a Pathfinder Diploma and can officially start their careers as Pathfinders. Sunday morning and afternoon, new Pathfinders will get a chance to show what they're made of, as they are sent on their first official Society missions, with the intro scenarios "In Service to Lore" and "To Delve the Dungeon Deep".

Important Notice:

Due to the limited seating available at this convention we will be enforcing the following seating priority:
  • 1st: Pathfinder ticket, signed up on Warhorn
  • 2nd: Pathfinder ticket, Not signed up on Warhorn
  • 3rd: Generic ticket, signed up on Warhorn
  • 4th: Generic ticket, Not signed up on Warhorn
