All Weekend

Star Fleet Battles Patrol Tournament - The Council Cup * Star Fleet Battles
SFB * $ 5
Tournament Judge: Stephen McCann * 32 Players * Teen14
Star Fleet Battles is an intricate game of ship-to-ship combat in the classic Star Trek universe (the one Kirk explored). Several other races have been added for variety. Tournament battles are like tense chess matches, with each player trying to bring his ship’s strengths to bear. Last year’s tournament was once again the largest in the whole country, and we expect strong attendance again this year.

To make it easier for you to try the game if you're interested, feel free to drop by and play the first game free. If you'd like to continue in the tournament, you can pay to enter. But if you'd just like to learn a new game, it's on us.

SFB stars right at 9am on Friday when the doors open. Fight patrol battles all weekend, until we start the finals on Saturday evening at 7pm. Semi-finals and Finals will be Sunday.

You can change your ship mid-tournament, but you will need to pay a new $5 to re-enter.

CONTINUED THIS YEAR - Anyone who comes in try SFB for the first time, or comes in to shake off years of rust, can walk away with a free item from our “Take One Leave One” used SFB game pile. Beginners encouraged.

Board Games

Eclipse
A-Board-1 * $ 2
Game Master: David Bostwick * 6 Players * Teen14
The galaxy has been a peaceful place for many years. After the ruthless Terran-Hegemony War (30.027 - 33.364), much effort has been employed by all major spacefaring species to prevent the terrifying events from repeating themselves. The Galactic Council was formed to enforce precious peace, and it has taken many courageous efforts to prevent the escalation of malicious acts. Nevertheless, tension and discord are growing among the seven major species and in the Council itself. Old alliances are shattering, and hasty diplomatic treaties are made in secrecy. A confrontation of the superpowers seems inevitable - only the outcome of the galactic conflict remains to be seen. Which faction will emerge victorious and lead the galaxy under its rule? A game of Eclipse places you in control of a vast interstellar civilization, competing for success with its rivals. You will explore new star systems, research technologies, and build spaceships to wage war with. There are many potential paths to victory, so you need to plan your strategy according to the strengths and weaknesses of your species, while paying attention to the other civilizations' endeavors. The shadows of the great civilizations are about to eclipse the galaxy. Lead your people to victory! Eclipse with all expansions and many house rules for technologies. Beginners encouraged.

Camel Up & Tsuro
A-Board-2 * $ 2
Game Master: Jeannie Compter * 8 Players * E10
Two great games in one session! In Camel Up, up to eight players bet on five racing camels, trying to suss out which will place first and second in a quick race around a pyramid. The earlier you place your bet, the more you can win - should you guess correctly, of course. Camels don't run neatly, however, sometimes landing on top of another one and being carried toward the finish line. Who's going to run when? That all depends on how the dice come out of the pyramid dice shaker, which releases one die at a time when players pause from their bets long enough to see who's actually moving! Tsuro is a beautifully simple game of laying a tile before your own token to continue its path on each turn. The goal is to keep your token on the board longer than anyone else's, but as the board fills up this becomes harder because there are fewer empty spaces left... and another player's tile may also extend your own path in a direction you'd rather not go. Beginners encouraged.

Flash Point: Fire Rescue
A-Board-3 * $ 2
Game Master: Thomas A. Compter * 6 Players * E10
The call comes in... "911, what is your emergency?" On the other end is a panicked response of "FIRE!" Moments later you don the protective suits that will keep you alive, gather your equipment and rush to the scene of a blazing inferno. You must work as a team because the fire is raging, the building is threatening to collapse, and lives are in danger. The residential fires are tough enough, but the heat really turns up on the Second Story and even more in Urban Structures. And let's not even talk about how hard it is to fight fires in a Submarine! Flash Point: Fire Rescue is a cooperative game of fire rescue. This session will include a basic residential fire as a learning game, followed by a more challenging scenario in one or more of the many expansions: Urban Structures, 2nd Story, Extreme Danger, Dangerous Waters, or Honor and Duty. Part of Double Exposure's Envoy Program. Beginners encouraged.

TITAN
A-Board-4 * $ 2
Game Master: Northeast Titan League * 10 Players * E10
This Monster Slugathon Fantasy Wargame still has a very devoted following, a tribute to its depth and various strategies. The game is divided into two realms, the masterboard and the battleboards. Legions of mythical creatures roam about the masterboard trying to recruit bigger and badder monsters and kill opposing legions in the process. When a combat occurs, the action moves to the corresponding terrain's battleboard where the fight takes place. Lots of dice are tossed, and the legion that wins is returned to the masterboard with the spoils of war: points. As the points increase,Titans become more powerful. But be careful, If a player's Titan dies, the player is out of the game. The last Titan standing is the winner of the game.

Beginners are very welcome! This is an SWA Northeast Titan league game and the results will be recorded. Games will be made up at random from the available players. Note: The time limit for this game is the length of the event slot. Game will be played on Super Size Deluxe Poker Chip Set of Titan. Battleground: Fantasy Warfare is a point-based miniatures game - but without the miniatures. Battleground uses cards rather than painted models to represent your forces. This means a much lower price as well as easier transportation and setup, but don't be fooled - this is not a "light" war game or a CCG. Some knowledge of this rules system preferred.

When you check your e-mail, you find a message asking for help with an assignment from roxyadon@etu.edu. Her initial investigation has uncovered that local officials and otherwise upstanding members of society are involved in a secret illegal gambling operation. Rumors are that they use their power and prestige to deflect local law enforcement from delving too deeply into the illicit operations around the Sanders Chicken Ranch. She would like to meet on the Student Center Saturday morning to take a drive out the Sanders farm to grab some quick pictures and take a look around... So take a few pictures, look at some poultry... what could possibly go wrong? Beginners encouraged.

And Some Fell on Stony Ground * Call of Cthulhu
B-RPG-3 * $ 5
Game Master: Andre Kruppa * 5 Players * Mature18
Stowell is a classic example of small-town life in 1920s America. Friendly folks have lived happy, fulfilling lives here for many years, spiced up with the occasional feud or gossip. Children play barefoot in the street, and folks buy fresh food from local farms, supplemented with items from the general store. Life has been good and decent here, but now something seems wrong. Just how wrong is hard to say. You have a feeling that you are about to find out what terror lurks in the darkness beneath the town's placid surface!

This Call of Cthulhu scenario is written by Paul Fricker and presented by Andre Kruppa. No rules knowledge is required, but skilled role-playing is a must. A theatrical-style tabletop game using lights and sound, “And Some Fell on Stony Ground” is intended for mature players only. (Please, no players familiar with the scenario.) This session may be recorded for podcasting and/or video, and players may be asked to sign a release. Please note we expect this game to run late, probably until 1:00 AM.

Board Games

Axis & Allies 1914
B-Board-1 * $ 2
Game Master: Benjamin Bunday * 7 Players * Teen14
Come fight the War to End Wars in this good adaptation of the classic WW2 game to the meatgrinder that we all know and love. The tournament rules (provided by GM) speed up the game by allowing any of the powers to be go into revolt and leave the game if their fortunes turn out badly enough. Other tweaks allow for faster non-combat movement which balances the game well since the Central Powers can move forces to the front faster, allowing them to sustain offensives better. This version has been playtested and makes for a good game. We played this version at a few SWA Game-a-thons with good reviews. Some knowledge of this rules system preferred.

C-RPG-4 * $ 2
Game Master: Sam Pitcheralle * 6 Players * Teen14
June of 1935, the Dust Bowl still plagued the American Southwest, a third of all people were out of work, and the government's path to recovery was far from certain. Amidst this Great Depression, the Bryson Springs Ranch suffered a hardship altogether more extraordinary. People were dying in the migrant workers' shantytown, dying in horrific, mind-boggling ways. Players take the roles of strangers, cast about by the hard times and drawn into the nightmare that is Bryson Springs. They must band together to confront the things which stalk the desert night, hunting their dark and blasphemous god. Beginners encouraged.

Fiasco! * Fiasco
C-RPG-5 * $ 2
Game Master: Michael Thomas * 5 Players * Teen14
Fiasco is inspired by cinematic tales of small time capers gone disastrously wrong - inspired by films like Blood Simple, Fargo, The Way of the Gun, Burn After Reading, and A Simple Plan. You'll play ordinary people with powerful ambition and poor impulse control. There will be big dreams and flawed execution. It won't go well for them, to put it mildly, and in the end it will probably all go south in a glorious heap of jealousy, murder, and recrimination. Lives and reputations will be lost, painful wisdom will be gained, and if you are really lucky, your guy just might end up back where he started. Beginners encouraged.

Meanwhile the infamous Narco-Cartels seek only to produce and move cocaine and to gather money, and don't care who gets hurt in the process - so long as it isn't them. Game Master: Michael Crossman * 5 Players * Teen14
It's been weeks since the zombie outbreak; we'd been lucky to survive this long. Food is running out, ammo is almost gone, and people were beginning to give up hope. Then the radio started broadcasting a message from some community that had created a safe zone. The broadcast promised that anyone that could make it to the roof of the Myles building in the center of the city would get a free helicopter ride to the safe zone. Of course there was one catch; seems the cure for the zombie outbreak was somewhere in the building and that was the price for the chopper ride. As desperate as we were what choice did we have? We made it through the city and into the lobby of the Myles building, but getting here had brought a horde of zombies upon us and though they were locked out of the building they won't stay out long. Problem is the elevators are filled with rubble, and the door to the stairs is locked. I can only hope we find the key before those things find a way inside. Beginners encouraged.

Board Games

Napoleonic Wars
E-Board-1 * $ 2
Game Master: Eric Alexopoulos * 5 Players * Teen14
The Napoleonic Wars, 1805 - 1815, brings you a fast-paced, tension-filled, card-driven wargame using a point-to-point movement system that pushes the envelope in a new direction for this pivotal period of history. Having a simple-to-learn strategic system and short rulebook, The Napoleonic Wars, can be played in an evening as the cards and Diplomatic Track make for tough decision-making in the face of everchanging enemy threats. Set in 1805 Europe, you must weigh the strategic dilemmas facing the two alliances in mortal conflict. Napoleon's France enjoys a superb army, central position, superior leadership, and a useful, if not powerful, ally in Spain. However, she faces three foes. Napoleon must beware of Britain's seapower and wealth, Austria's threatening position, and Russia's reinforcing hordes. In the wings, Prussia, Turkey, and Sweden teeter on the brink of war, begging inducements to join either side. Even lowly Denmark's fleet can upset the balance of power. When fleets or armies collide, battle-related cards may be played and then dice are rolled to resolve the battle and inflict casualties. Even the most brilliant maneuver faces the chance of floundering. So play The Napoleonic Wars now, and put the strategist in you to the test. Your options are only limited by your vision, a meddlesome enemy's cards, and the hand of fate. Beginners encouraged.

Space Hulk Tournament
E-Minis-2 * $ 2
Game Master: David Bostwick * 8 Players * E10
Space Hulk is a light miniatures wargame set in the Warhammer 40K universe. It has a relatively simple rule-set and is known for its fast play and immersive theme (think the movie Aliens). You lay out corridors and rooms that represent a large disabled ship floating in space. The Space Marines wear powerful space battle suits and carry heavy weaponry. The Genestealers are naked and defenseless (except for their enormous speed, four clawed arms able to rip through armor, and their seemingly endless numbers). Each game is played as a scenario. The Space Marines win by completing a certain goal, such as retrieving an artifact and escaping alive. The GeneStealers win by stopping the Space Marines from achieving their goal, usually by killing them all. A unique mechanism is that the Genestealers have no time limit for their turn while the Space Marines are severely limited. This simulates the fact that Genestealers move so much quicker and adds a lot of tension to the game for the Marine player. The tournament will consist of multiple one-on-one, timed, elimination games. Each player will play Marines and Genestealers once in each round. After each round, the lowest scoring players will be eliminated from the tournament. The tournament will last 3 rounds for the winner, less for the others. It will not be possible to join the tournament once the first round has begun. Rules will be taught. Rules are 1st edition. All players should bring a digital timer. Note: I provide material for anyone who is eliminated to play additional games, if they like, but they are out of the tournament. They are welcome to play for entire slot. Beginners encouraged.

The Pirates Find an Ally * Federation Commander
F-Minis-5 * $ 2
Game Master: Thomas A. Compter * 6 Players * Teen14
An Orion pirate battle raider was preying on Kzinti freighters, so the Kzintis dispatched a small task force to hunt down the pirate ship and destroy it. The pirate captain fled toward a neutral area of space that was disputed by both the Federation and the Klingon Empire. He escaped from the Kzintis at high warp speed and assumed a close orbit around an uninhabited planet, hoping to avoid detection. The Kzintis quickly contacted the Federation and informed them about their pursuit of the pirate close to Federation space. They did not want their actions be misinterpreted as hostile. Star Fleet Command had been tracking the movement of the pirate vessel and saw an opportunity to improve relations with the Kzintis, so they provided them with long-range sensor data on the movement of the Orion. A starship was sent to "observe" the Kzinti action and render assistance if necessary. The Klingons were no friends of the Orion pirates, but they, too, detected what was happening and, seeing an opportunity to gain control of this area from the Federation, sent ships to aid the Orion ship according to a deal that was brokered via subspace. This scenario begins just as the Federation and Kzinti ships arrive on the scene. Beginners encouraged.
