We are just five months away from Nothing but Carnage. We are in full swing of getting great games and great GMs to run them. We are planning on presenting another excellent selection of Boardgames for you this year! Below is a wish list of Boardgames we would love to have at Carnage 12. This is in no way a complete list. There are many great games not on this list that we would love to have as well. Also not all these games will neccessarily be run at Carnage. But we will try! So if you are interested in GMing this year and feel comfortable running any of these games, please use our GM submission form at the www.carnagecon.com website. (or email me directly mrgarabaldi005@yahoo.com with your game or any questions) Be sure to include your prefered time slot to run, as well as a back up slot. If you want to GM and don't see your game in our wish list.... still go to the GM submission form and submit your game! All games submissions are welcome! Our deadline this year is Aug 5th. Please click "Read more" below to see the list... |

Call for GMs for the July 18th Game-a-thon |
|
Submitted by DC on Wed, 06/24/2009 - 17:34.

The July Game-a-thon is coming up on Saturday, July 18th. We are looking for people to GM. If you're looking for ideas, we have requests for Axis & Allies-Anniversary Edition and Avalon Hill's Source of the Nile. We would also like to know what games would entice you to attend. We already have commitments for a Wild West version of Call of Cthulhu RPG for the evening slot, and RPGA D&D for both sessions. You can sign up to run a game using
this form:
http://www.swa-gaming.org/gameathoneventregistration Or, you can request a game to be run here: http://www.swa-gaming.org/gameathonsuggestion Please sign up by June 30th or earlier. That way we can get the word out in plenty of time for the Thon. Swap Meet The July Game-a-thon is also one of our
quarterly Swap Meet days.
Three times per year, at the January, April and July Game-a-thons, we have a Swap Meet area at Game-a-thon. If you've got merchandise you'd like to sell, please consider renting a table or two. This is meant to be more of a Swap Meet / Garage Sale atmosphere, and not really intended for full merchant setups. Each attendee can rent a maximum of three tables. The first costs $2, two cost $10, and three cost $20. As you can see, the price structure encourages individuals to rent few tables. Each table is (2.5' x 2.5'); a standard card table. Some of them are kinda old and thus not very sturdy. Please keep this in mind when planning what you'll bring for sale. You can always put large or heavy merchandise underneath your table. You can reserve your
table(s) ahead of time by using the online
registration form.
You will
see the prices repeated there. Please also note that you have to pay
the Game-a-thon
registration in addition to the table rental fee if you play
games. We suggest that you use our Forum discussion boards to announce what you will/might bring. We suggest posting in the Game-a-thon Planning category where the Game-a-thons are announced. (Here's our secret agenda... Not only do we want to help you get rid of gaming stuff you're not using, but we'd also like to see this generate some more walk-in traffic.) Charity Book Auction Please also remember we are nearing the
end of the silent auction period for our charity book auction.
During the winter, the family of Larry Conley donated his collection of 197 hardback SF/Fantasy books to the SWA. We're not really interested in running a lending library for club members, so we've decided to auction off the books. The proceeds of this auction will go to benefit the folks for whom war is not a game, but a reality - U.S. SOLDIERS! Everything we get from this auction will be passed along as a donation to the USO, to help them in their mission of supporting and helping our troops and their families. Please click here to go to the web page we've set up to facilitate this silent auction. You will find rules, prices, the list of 197 books, and a web form to make the whole process as smooth as possible: The deadline for bidding is July 4th. We will be distributing books to the winners at the July 18th Game-a-thon. Thank you for your interest and support. We hope to see many of you at our future events. |

Survey on Board Gaming to help with a Master's Thesis |

Submitted by DC on Mon, 05/25/2009 - 12:45.

UPDATE Due to an overwhelmingly positive response (see the comment below), the survey is closed. We maxed out the number of responses it can handle. Thank you to all who helped! = = = Ralph Mabb is looking to the SWA community for some survey data for his Master's Thesis. Please keep reading if you'd like to give less than 10 minutes of your time. = = = Hello fellow SWA gaming enthusiasts! I am currently pursuing my Master of Fine Arts in Graphic Design through one of the Art Institutes. I currently am in the thesis phase of my academic career and this is the culmination of almost three years of hard work. My thesis is titled Graphic design and the board game industry: Form vs. function to gamer satisfaction. Its a study the impact graphic design & aesthetics have on board games and the board game industry in general. I am almost done but at this point I wanted to get some good feedback from some fellow gamers that I can use as reference material. So I have designed a survey that should only take a few minutes of your time, its ten questions and completely anonymous. The questions center around board games, aesthetics and information management within board games. Most questions are general in nature and are multiple choice. It should only take about ten minutes and I am looking to get as many responses as possible in a weeks time. So If you don’t mind please take the few minutes of your valuable time and fill out my online survey available here: http://www.surveymonkey.com - SURVEY CLOSED By June 1st, 2009 if at all possible. And thanks again Ralph Mabb |

Historical Miniatures Survey - Results |

Awhile back, we asked you to participate in a survey of historical minis preferences. We got a great response: forty-seven people. Thank you to everyone who participated! We figured we'd share the final analysis with you here. SUMMARY As might be expected, there was strongest interest in Imperial Roman, Samurai, American War of Independence, American Civil War, and leading the way, World War II. This might be helpful when thinking about the kinds of historical events to run at Council and Game-a-thons. Here's a funny observation: Almost 50% of the people who said they'd be willing to run a historical miniatures game at a future SWA event answered the survey anonymously! If you think that might have been you, please email us at historical.minis/at/swa-gaming.org and let us know. We'll put you on our list of potential game masters. Thank you. Please click "Read more" below this block to see the detailed breakdown of results. |
