How early should GMs show up? Half hour? Fifteen minutes? Right on time?

How much time do you need to

How much time do you need to set up? The building will be open, as they have a meeting/event earlier in the day (that displaced us), so getting inside shouldn't be a problem.

Probably just 5 to 10

Probably just 5 to 10 minutes. I just didn't know if there was a protocol for that. Particularly with no knowing how late the event was going that bumped out the morning session.

Greg

Civilization-building game prototype

I'm interested in teaching and running a civilization-building game that I've been working on for a few years, The Sands of Time. Here's the introduction from the rulebook:

"The sands of time sweep across the ages, burying the cities and monuments of civilizations, leaving only whispers of the glory of ancient societies. In this game, each player rules over a civilization in the ancient world, attempting to accomplish exploits that will be remembered long after the civilization has withered. History is ephemeral, however, and players must expend sufficient effort to recording tales of their greatness so that when a historian emerges to chronicle the deeds of the empires, their accomplishments will be remembered. Players must harvest, build, and fight their way to a place in the history books, lest they be swept away by the Sands of Time!"

Some of the interesting features of the game include:

-- Quick, punchy player turns
-- Game board set in the real world, but with a unique projection
-- Good strategic depth that emphasizes player customization: you can preside over a military juggernaut, a cultural mecca, a hydraulic despotism, an economic power -- many different strategies are viable.
-- Military conquest is integral to the game but does not dominate the action. The game provides several avenues for cooperative interaction as well.

The game seats 3-6 players. Prospective players should note that this is an unpublished game in an advanced stage of development. I'd be happy to send along a pdf of the rulebook to anyone who is interested, but I will of course teach the game on the 28th as well. Ping me at jwarrend at aol dot com if you'd like to see the rulebook.

Sands of Time

Jeff,

Which session were you looking to run this in and how long do you expect the game to run?

Thanks!
-Steve

Sands of Time

The game typically takes about 45 minutes per player for newer players. I would prefer to run in the evening session but would be willing to run it in the afternoon session if that fits better with the schedule.
