Morning Session ( 11am - 4pm )

You awaken in an abandoned hospital-the only people here are you and the other patients. How long have you been out? What has happened to cause you to be left here? Explore the hospital for clues and figure out what is going on. The game ends with horrible finale, in which the truth is revealed and you are thrust into one of 2 dozen scenarios.

Horror survival semi-coop game with a possible traitor mechanism. Players are woken up from hibernation as a crew of a space ship. There is a critical system failure and the space ship can't continue its cruise. The goal of the crew is to find what is causing this failure and fix the situation to safely return back to Earth. The main problem is that one crew member is dead. Somebody crashed their hibernation chamber and pulled the body out. In addition, if you listen closely, some additional noises and sounds can be heard. New ones, strange ones, ones that were never heard before…

Space Empires is a game in the finest tradition of 4X space games - eXplore, eXpand, eXploit, and eXterminate. Each player builds up a space empire and uses it to conquer the other players. Exploration on the mounted map is simple for players (and dangerous for their ships), revealing different space terrain that affects movement and combat.

Space Empires was developed to keep a rich theme without overcomplicated rules. The game includes carriers and fighters, mines, cloaking, a very large technology tree, fifteen ship classes, merchant shipping, colonization, mining, terraforming, bases, shipyards, black holes, warp points, and non-player aliens.

Several months ago, three Miskatonic University professors armed themselves with secret knowledge, traveled to Dunwich, and brought an end to the strange and terrifying creature that had been terrorizing the secluded village. Their heroic efforts brought peace to the region—for a while—but also left the men scarred by the horrors they had witnessed. Now, one of those professors, Dr. Armitage, has need of your assistance. His colleagues have gone missing, and he fears the worst.


Power Grid - Expansion Maps

We will be playing one of the expansion maps available for Power Grid. These maps slightly alter the rules of the base game of Power Grid, requiring players to alter their strategies.

The objective of Power Grid is to supply the most cities with power when someone's network gains a predetermined size. In this new edition, players mark pre-existing routes between cities for connection, and then bid against each other to purchase the power plants that they use to power their cities.

However, as plants are purchased, newer, more efficient plants become available, so by merely purchasing, you're potentially allowing others access to superior equipment.

Additionally, players must acquire the raw materials (coal, oil, garbage, and uranium) needed to power said plants (except for the 'renewable' windfarm/ solar plants, which require no fuel), making it a constant struggle to upgrade your plants for maximum efficiency while still retaining enough wealth to quickly expand your network to get the cheapest routes.

Maturity Rating

To allow attendees and parents to make an informed decision on participation in an event, all events have been assigned one of the following Maturity Ratings:

  • Child rating is for children age 6 - 9 with adult supervision
  • E10+ rating is for players 10 and up in age
  • Teen rating is for players 14 and up in age
  • Mature rating is for players 18 and up in age.

Location

Game-a-thons are held at the Proctors Arts Complex, at 432 State Street, in downtown Schenectady. We'll usually be meeting in the Hearst Education Center, also called the Underground, which is the finished basement area of the old Carl Company. The primary entrance to this space is a staircase next to Proctors Box Office.

Session Fees

Show up and play one game session = $4.00
Show up and play both game sessions = $6.00
First time attendance at a Game-a-Thon is free.
GMs get in for free (even if you only GM in one session).
Full-time students get in for free.
For our purposes, "full-time students" are people in Kindergarten through college. Our intent here is to help allow younger games/"new blood" to participate at SWA events, and the gaming hobby in general. The student discount does not cover working adults who happen to be taking a Continuing Education class. Please help us fulfill the spirit and intent of this policy.

Registration

Our Game-a-thons are intended to be pretty casual events; people stroll in and sign up for the event of their choice on-the-spot. Occasionally, however, events fill to their maximum and beyond.

If you would like to increase your chance of getting into the game of your choice, you can pre-register online. Online pre-registration is not required; you can still just stroll in and get into a game.

We will hold your spot until the start of the session. If you are late and there are players ready to play, the game may start without you.
