496 - 498 AD: The Knights grow up
In 496, the player knights went on Patrol with Sir Kinwal. We encountered a Saxon warband raiding one of our towns. They resisted our initial charge and fought hard. Some of our men-at-arms began to break, but were roused back into action by the heroics of the young, just-knighed Sir Grufydd. Our renewed assault drove the Saxons to retreat.
Sir Miles, reknowned for his burning hatred of Saxons, urged that we not let our foe retreat in order. But most of our troops were wounded and unable to pursue. Sir Gwynnod agreed that he could track the Saxons overland, and he set out with Sir Miles. The small group caught the Saxons two days later as they were preparing to get back on their longship and depart. That night, we snuck into their camp and killed the guards. Sir Miles climbed aboard and set fire to all flammables. The Saxons awoke to find their boat ruined, and to the sight of us riding off into the night.
Our reinforcements overtook the demoralized Saxons, and we killed or captured them all. But Sir Miles' award for his bravery was a Saxon Berserk cleaving his shield and killing him in one blow. Sir Gwynnod also received a nasty slash across his face in the fight; a scar that will mark him for the rest of his days.
497 was a year of merriment and wonder. Both Sir Sarf and Sir Grufydd were rewarded for their loyal service with wives above their station, the dowries including estates for the new husbands. All the knights of Huntington wondered how Sir Sarf, reknowned for his appetite for women, would handle married life.
We also had reports of a beast killing peasants and sheep. Sir Gwynnod's dogs tracked the creature to it's cave, only to find it was a Giant! Though fearsome, it could not stand against the knights of Huntington. Sir Bran, almost a giant himself, was inspried by his faith in God when he struck the killing blow.
Spring of 498 brought a strange visitor. It was a knight of great reknown, Sir Ellam. He had been crippled by a magical blade, cursed with a wound that would not heal. The villian was the Imposter knight, The Proud Warrior of Landoine. The knights of Huntington set out to kill him and thus end the curse. We found his lands hidden deep in Landoine forest. His knights were no match for us, and they were all captured or killed. The imposter knight was beheaded for his evil.
We await the decision of our lord as to who will be given the responsibility to manage the estates this imposter knight had been subjugating.
