DETAILS
I just bought a new Mac, so I'm getting rid of my old reliable setup. I take really good care of my things, so this whole system is in great shape. I've also added lots of extras and upgrades over the years. I could get more on eBay, but I want to try keeping it local and avoiding all the shipping hassles.
Here's everything you'll get:
* PowerMac "Beige" Minitower, upgraded with a Powerlogix G4/533 processor upgrade (originally a G3/266)
* 6 GB ATA Hard Drive (option to upgrade - see below)
* Additional 9 MB SCSI Hard Drive
* The maximum RAM this machine can hold: 768 MB
* Onboard video RAM upgraded to 6 MB
* This Mac has the "A/V Personality" card, so there are jacks for stereo audio, video, and S-Video both in AND out. Hook the Mac up to a TV. Hook it up to your stereo and pipe iTunes through your home stereo system (I did, and it's awesome!) You can also get software to import audio and video for editing - the hardware is already here.
* Additional ix3D Rage Pro 8 MB VRAM video card - you can run two monitors at once (I did)
* PCI Card to add 2 USB 1.1 ports
* PCI Card to add 3 FireWire 400 ports
* 24x CD-ROM Drive
* 3.5" Floppy Disk Drive
* 100 MB ZIP Drive
* Ethernet built-in
Additional Hardware:
* 13" Apple RGB Monitor
(Look in the "Free" section of Craigslist to get a second monitor for free. People are giving them away all the time).
* 56K Global Village Fax Modem. Sending faxes is as easy as printing a document. Can receive faxes too.
* APS External 18 GB SCSI Hard Drive - great for backups
* UMAX Astra 600, 30-bit color scanner (SCSI)
* Epson 600 Stylus Color Printer
* 3 extra Black ink cartridges and 4 extra Color ink cartridges
* 10 blank 100 MB ZIP Disks
* 36 blank 1 MB 3.5" Floppy Disks
* Advent external powered Stereo Speakers
SOFTWARE
* Original CDs for Mac OS 9 (9.0 - 9.22) and Mac OS X (10.0 - 10.2)
* Microsoft Office 98 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) - Full Retail Version, original CD
* Netscape Navigator 7.02, preloaded
* Norton SystemWorks, including Norton Anti-Virus (not that you really need it with a Mac) and Norton Utilities
* Adobe Photoshop (Limited Edition) 5.0
* Adobe PhotoDeluxe - great for retouching photos
* Doom
* Aladdin Spring Cleaning
* A bunch of other stuff that comes with the original Mac CDs
* More software, including but not limited to: Grolier Encyclopedia, TIME Almanac, Family Doctor, Creative Reader for Kids, and 3D World Atlas
* Even more free software on several CDs
COMMENTS
* I have the original shipping boxes for the PowerMac, the Monitor and the Scanner. I take good care of my things, and I've saved these boxes. You can transport the equipment safely and securely.
OPTIONS
* For $30 extra, I'll remove the 6 GB hard drive and install an 80 GB Maxtor hard drive. Newer, much bigger and a good bit faster too. I'll even install OS X (10.2.6) on it for you, if you'd like.
* For $75 extra, I'll deliver the whole system to you (within 20 miles), set it up, and give you a 2-hour tutorial on how to get the best possible use out of it.
* For $50 extra, I'll have it set up here and give you a 2-hour tutorial. I'll then help you pack it up and load it in your car.
WHY AM I SELLING?
It was a tough decision. This system is still rock solid and plenty fast. I just felt it was time to upgrade - I need the speed for my work.
WHO IS A GOOD BUYER FOR THIS SYSTEM?
1. You want the stability and reliability of Macintosh
Macs are not plagued by viruses and other malware like Windows machines.
2. You are in the market for a solid, entry-level computer.
Perhaps a high school student, or someone going off to college. This system is comparable to some of the Mac Mini's that came out last year (although not nearly as compact). But this setup comes with lots of extra equipment and software that you'd need to spend hundreds extra on if you bought a Mini.
3. You are willing to save lots of money to not have cutting edge.
If you're going to do graphic design, lots of Photoshop, or Video/Audio editing, I'd suggest spending more on something faster. But this system is great for someone who wants a lot of basic computer functionality and-then-some:
* Web browsing
* Email
* Word Processing & Spreadsheets
* Color printing
* Scanning 2D artwork
* Faxing
* iTunes music.
THE PRICE
I think $350 is reasonable for everything you're getting here. Again, I could get more on eBay, but I'd like to avoid the hassles of shipping. I'd also like to see a friend of the SWA benefit.
I'm willing to negotiate. I expect to get several offers for a deal this sweet, so let's see how things go.
