Birth Right Converted to 3rd

()

I am beginning to work on converting the BirthRight system from 2nd edition to a nice new 3rd edition. I am currently in the process of moving and will get into working on it some time early next week. I am looking into running a campaign of rulers of some of the small kingdoms. Also, clerics and rogue/guildmembers will be allowed. The game will not be a classic D&D style game, but more of a turn based style of play with it being played out over e-mail and roleplaying being done in person (duh).

Re: Birth Right Converted to 3rd

Also, regents gain 2 extra skill points per level, despite class.

Re: Birth Right Converted to 3rd

Rogues will still have plenty of skill points to spend. Rogues in birthright are generally guildmasters which ranges from anything from merchants to theives guildmasters. Rogues will have less points to spend on things like administration if they take more rogue like skills but is a theives guild member usually skilled in adminstration.

Re: Birth Right Converted to 3rd

Why would anyone ever bother being a rouge then? The whole point of being a rouge is to have the points to put into skills like hide and move silent.

Re: Birth Right Converted to 3rd

I am allowing players to play any class they want except Druids, Sorc, and Bards. All PCs will gain skill points on the following level (2+Int mod)x4 for 1st level and (2+Int mod) at each other level.

The great part of the birth right system is that it is so dynamic, so I will not split any of it up. But, the battle system will be somewhat like you describe, more like the skirmish system D&D has than like the cards.

Unless, there is a wide love for the cards?

Re: Birth Right Converted to 3rd

i feek that the battle system is god but might not acurately represent a battle situation. you could come up witha system of moves and have people plan out their strategies. example move inf. company one forward till it engages the enemy. with some simple orders you would be able to resolve battles without the chrs present. if people want to be there that would be ok and they might get more of a chance to effect the battle but sometimes rulers are away.
i think the system has real potential. you could run economic and war turns like the recent star fareing games that were run at the studio. we would hen get together for adventures and planning of our turns.

is the game going to be competative or coropertive?

i suggest you look at the dmg. rulers should be nobles not fighters! guildmasters should be artisans or the crafts people in the dmg! i suggest that a cleric should not be allowed to become the leader of their religion until they have the appropriate prestige class.(gods dont give that kinda power to losers)

theives should run the spy rings and fighters should lead armies. mabye spit law holdings in tems of the buracracy and the millitary and split guild holdings into spy network stuff and acctual small industry?

just a bunch of ideas for you. is everyone gonna have there own realm?

Re: Birth Right Converted to 3rd

More info here, the campaign will most likley include the areas around Roesone and Illien. Between me and some other gamers I have spoken with, we cover most of the world of BirthRight. It won't be a classic D&D camapign but will focus more on rulership/ownership of your holdings. There will be room for fighters/clerics/rogues and maybe even a Wizard if someone really wants to play one. I will get it all typed up and try to put some stuff out in a week or two.

Re: Birth Right Converted to 3rd

Hmm, sounds interesting but you have to explain more what you mean exactly.

Re: Birth Right Converted to 3rd

ok. can i suggest that you try to make the army/naval moves an online thing? you might be able to work the system so people just send in orders for a battle and you ajudicate it and pass along the results.

Re: Birth Right Converted to 3rd

Yep, I will do that. I am going to work on the army/naval battle rules a lot and do some modifying to the actual game and will be ready to go in a few weeks.

Re: Birth Right Converted to 3rd

sounds interesting. keep me informed.
