Character Creation

()

Okay, I thought I had posted this before but apparently not. Here is the setup:

1- Ability scores will be set using these standardized numbers: 17,17,15,15,12,10 This insures everyone has good(if not great) stats to start with and no one gets screwed in the rolling. I also allow people to drop 2 points off one number to increase another number by 1 (for those of you that just need an 18.

2- Allowed classes are Fighters, Paladins, Rangers, Priests, Rogues, and Wizards. The rest just aren't regent material. Multi-classing is not allowed and all players are 1st level at the start. Also, everyone must play Humans, as that is where the campaign will take place.

3- Skills are allocated as such:
(2+Int mod)x4+6 for 1st level and (5+Int mod) at each other level
This includes the human's bonus of extra skill points and the above chart applies to all classes.

4- Blood strength of all players is 64 and blood abilities of players will be determined by the GM.

5- Players can start with any suit of armor and 3-4 masterwork weapons for personal use.

Re: Character Creation

Also, I still dont plan to use the Magician class from the new edition either. Also, consider the aristocrat class from the DMG to be the same as the noble class in the new rules( ie, use the new class instead). Players will also now be able to multiclass freely, but do not get 2 more skill points per level for being a regent.

Re: Character Creation

Characters will now have 40 points, but will also have a BloodStrength ability score to figure in as well. Information on that skill is located in the .pdf file.

Re: Character Creation

Now that character creation rules are now finalized, please try to make your character and get it to me as soon as possible. Let me know when your character is made. I will get with Dave and Tim as soon as I can to make their characters with them.

Re: Character Creation

when are chrs due? also for thoose non 3rd editon people i have an extra phb i can loan. just to let everyone know if you are bidding on ebay i am murphdasmurf so lets try not to get into a bidding war over birth right stuff.

Re: Character Creation

Like I said, 32 is cool for me, so consider it so. Feats and prestige classes need to be approved before use but generally all WOTC d20 system products will be accepted.

Re: Character Creation

i think your right about that 22 would only be 12s 5 out of 6 attributes. i think a high power game would be near 36 to 40 medium would be 32 to 34. what feats are being used there are alot out there what are you allowing ? should we brig feats and prestige classes to you or will there be a guideline in the feuture?

Re: Character Creation

>laugh< that "normal" figure of 22 is a bad joke - I don't think I have seen, heard or otherwise known of a single campaign since 3rd ed came out that has used less than 28/30 - and those were the "low" power campaigns.

Re: Character Creation

30 pts is enough for have some very nice stats, although it is slightly less than before. This is still a lot of points considering when a normal D&D game is 22, but if it will pacify all people, 32 points is fine to me and wont make a difference.

The reason for a set blood strength being at 30 is that is a major bloodline and will give the players a lot of space to improve. I hate the randomized blood lines as it generates a score from 4-64. A bad roll here and you can be screwed for the game. Also, I can't conceivably see any PC that would need a 64 score the way the setup will go.

Aristocrat- Full regency for rulership and half from law. Aristocrats most likley will be mixed with another class for good regency and good class skills, which makes sense to me.

I am well aware of the skill points. Remember, I added 5 more skills that are very useful to all players beside the ones from the PHB. Also, all the BR skills are cross-class skills to everyone except aristocrat.

I have not setup any deities beside the standard ones, if you wanted to create one to fill a niche then I am all for it. Other than that, I will keep on with the regular gods from the book.

Re: Character Creation

First a comment - 30pts is really low for this sort of campaign. If people were griping about the old stats then shoot them and move on. You should consider at least 32pts if not a good deal more - or just sticking with the original stat plan. (edit for clarity - I can make a character with any stats you care to name, it's just that my "vision" of a birthright campaign always revolved around seriously heroic characters - not average joes)

Similarly, what prompted the massive cut to bloodline strength? (I'd also say that I am definately in favor of randomised Bloodline strength - it can be balanced with starting holdings easily enough)

As for the Aristocrat - for BR purposes what does he gain regency from?

Also, is the +2 skill points per level an additional figure or are you just making sure people remember the human bonus?

Are there any additional deities available from the standard? I just looked them over and I had forgotten how small and limited the original pantheon is.

Re: Character Creation

Ok, here are some of the changes to character creation.

Ability Scores: I am going to use the point buy system in the DMG. For those who dont know, all stats a 8 and you have 32 points to spend on them. Increasing a stat above 14 cost 2 points, above 16 cost 3 points.

Level: All characters will start at 2nd level.

Blood Score: The blood score will be 30 for all players now.

Multi-classing: Characters can multi-class as aristocrats only.

New Class: Aristocrat from DMG.

Skill points: Skill pts will be gained as per class and can add 2 per level. All the regent skills listed before are cross class skills to all classes except the aristocrat. Priests still have Diplomacy as a class skill.

Please let me know what class and wheather your character wants to be a ruler or wheather your character wants just temple or just guild holdings. Also, feel free to post questions here instead of email so I dont have to answer the same question twice.

Re: Character Creation

Disregard the message above, I will be making an alteration to the char creation system this weekend to address the concerns of some of the players.
