Re: February 18th Game-a-thon
I'd play any of the games listed. I'd especially like to try Magic realm and AA Pacific.
I'm going to run Magic Realm in March. Keep an eye on these forums, I'll post some more info about it.

Is the guy who is running Axis using the revised edition or is he using the original battlemasters version by MB?
On behalf of the GM:
"It is a customized game based on the original Axis and Aillies. It has a bigger map, more troops types and event cards."

The 6th slot is for myself

I'll run the World of Warcraft Bord Game by FFG in one time slot: 5 players.
BGG has this as 2-6 players. Is the 6th an optional rule or is there an error somewhere?

Bill, the 18th should be fine for me, and I can do the evening slot.

Mike,
Can you switch to the new date and do you have a preference on the time slot? We could use you in the evening if possible.

I'm going to contact Norma either today or Sat to confirm the rest of the year out. It is also worth reminding people that they are hosting a bridge tourney that weekend and we only have the front room for Thon.

Okay, Bill and I discussed the upcoming Thon tonight. If Nick is to run Titan, I will run Cosmic Encounter (Mayfair version) in the morning. That way, anyone eliminated from Titan may be able to jump into a game of Cosmic (which are 45-60 mins each usually) and then a night time session afterwards.
Maybe Dave can confirm, but I would think that anyone eliminated in the morning session that doesn't play in the evenin would only be charged $4. Only those who do well in the game will be running in two sessions, and I would think that would be a worthwhile deal for them.
As for Revolution, I will bring my copy with me in the event that the evening session is filled up.

)Revolution
I would be willing to play Revolution again; I believe Keith Cornell, who was one of the players last time, has expressed an interest in playing again as well.

)GMing
Seeing as I am most likely running an event the same session as you are, and the fact that I would LOVE to play any of the other three you've listed, A&A:P would be my first choice for what you should run.
As "game-a-thon Czar", are you supposed to run a game at every event? I would love a chance to play Revolution again, especially with a group that already knows the rules. Maybe Mike would like to play again too? In any case, couldn't we plan it so we're not running opposing games?
Or, in the the case of Titan, you could run and play it with my set. Then I could just be a player or Co-GM. We would still have room for 4 other players, which seems fine for an all-day game-a-thon event. I'm not sure how many people would want to commit to a 2-slot event.
I'm not sure about the success of the other games you've mentioned but, you probably already know, DM and PG are fairly popular on BGG right now. Dune… not sure, I've actually never played. All three seem interesting to me. I'm not a big CM fan, but I think most other gamers would be into it.

I think the Titan idea is great because of the fact it is an elimination game and many are knocked out in time for the second session. If you go that route, it would be good if we could get short Euro-type games in the early slot so that eliminated players could jump into some of those as well.
Mythology went well last time, and I think there is enough interest to run it again. I was planning on running it again after the rulebook revision is done, but running it implementing the changes we are planning would be a good test as well. The big drawback to Mythology is that it is a LONG game to actually finish, so a double session would be best for it, but because of the non-elimination factor, it may not be as appealing to the schedule.
Magic Realm would be nice, but it might be something to announce a month or two out to allow interested players to read the rules as much as possible. I would think it could be announced with the February lineup that Magic Realm will be run the following month, and provide the rulebook link. It's making quite a comeback nationally, but I don't know how much of that is local.
I'm not a big A&A fan, but I know that it the series is very popular and if you can get a second copy to allow for up to 6, that would probably run well. Seeing as I am most likely running an event the same session as you are, and the fact that I would LOVE to play any of the other three you've listed, A&A:P would be my first choice for what you should run.
Speaking of running games, depending on the schedule needs and availability, I'm still trying to decide what to run as well. Has Dune or Circus Maximus (AH Classics) ever run with success at Thons before?
I'd run Revolution again, but with the experienced players unavailable, I'd want to get feedback from interested novices first. The other leading possibilities right now are Die Macher and Power Grid. DM ran well last time and PG is highly rated and apparently new to the area (it hasn't run at a Thon before as far as I know). Feedback is always enncouraged of course.

Charles Morehouse has run Magic Realm in the past with some interest, so a game of this might go well.
Titan seems like a game you would want to run as a 2-session tournament once in a blue moon. It is a long game, but in my experience a fair amount are eliminated early.

)So…
here are some games I've been thinking of running at one of the upcoming game-a-thons. Just want to see if anyone is interested. LMK.
1. Axis & Allies: Pacific
I know it's only 3 players, but I could always borrow a game from someone. I should be able to accommodate 6 without much trouble.
2. Mythology: Steve ran this at a game-a-thon not too long ago. We have since talked about it, and are resolving some of the rule questions we had. It's a fun game; I think it would be good to run a follow-up.
3. Magic Realm: The unofficial 3rd edition rulebook is now complete. I'd have to do some reading, but I think it would be fun to try to run this game. Obviously it would be great if potential players skimmed the rules. They can be downloaded for free.

4. Titan: This seems to go over well at council. I was even thinking of running it all day (both slots), if people were interested. It's a long game and one slot is not long enough to see the game all the way through. Also if players get knocked out early they could hop into an afternoon game. I'm not sure if anyone has tried a two slot game, or if it is frowned upon. But, because game-a-thons are every month now, maybe it's no biggie.

)that was fast!
I mentioned to Steve Bachmann, on Saturday, that it might be cool to have a forum for game-a-thon planning. A couple days later, here it is. Damn that was fast.
Thanks Steve and Dave.
