Usually, Knowledge (Nature) would apply. I might allow others depending on the nature of the encounter, i.e., Knowledge (Arcana) for a construct, Knowledge (Religion) for Celestial or Fiendish creatures.

As for identifying creatures, what skill applies or is it and INT check? Your descirptions are pretty good and I'm a lil slow, so it took me a minute to figure that we were fighting undead in the first fight. Just curious if characters get a chance to figure it out.
