There are acts that are inherently evil in and of themselves, and acts which seem good but lead to evil consequences. If a character were to inadvertently release an evil into the world, they might be expected to try and correct the error. If the character was a member of a holy order, then some sort of atonement might be expected by the religious authorities. This could range from some sort of penance to a dangerous quest of some sort.

If your deity hasn't stripped you of your power, then some sort of penance is likely in order.
