Library Additions
ok folks. since we need to build up the library i am all for marks idea of the first year putting two seasons into writing books for the library. Now that could either be two tractus or a summae. I for one would like to have a couple summae in the library in the next couple of years, but having some tractus in for the instant gratification would be nice.
i can write books on the following:
Creo
Intelligo
Muto
Animal
Mentem
Teram
Vim
I can also write TWO tractus in Rego since i have a 10 in it.
Obviously since writing these does me NO good it doesn't mater to me which i do.
As far as summae go since if i recall you can write up to 1/2 your level in the book i can make a rego 5, muto 4 or teram 4. Anything less i think is useless. Now i forget how long it takes to write the summae and what quality it can be, someone refresh my memory.
Also on a side note: we only have what, 4-5 books to start with? i think we should have half the covenent writing at one time so that when we're done we don't have 8 people fighting over the creo and corpus books. I'll write seasons 1 and 2 and study seasons 3 and 4.
We also need a PLAYER to be the librarian. not an official character job just somone to keep track of the books and players contributions to the covenant. Mark did a good job last game, although i don't know if he's up to it again.

Tractatus Correction
Page 165:
"A character must have a score of at least five in an Art, or at least two in an Ability, before she can write a useful book."
I thought the "I have a 1, so I'll write a tractatus" thing sounded to-good-to-be-true.

I can supply at least 1 tractatus in 1122 of quality 8. Year 1121 is currently booked up on other projects. I can currently write Creo (2), Rego (2), Terram (3). Which ever one the covenant would like.

Fellas,
Covenant set up is important. Nate saw something that I saw a while ago, and was confirmed today when Mike handed out the Vis sources.
We need the resources to cast the Aegis. Currently that means AT LEAST five pawns. We have to come up with that every year [period]
We also need to get the library duplicated. Just looking at the next two years of peoples plans, there is going to be a lot of conflict over those books. With the library duplicated, those problems are almost eliminated (for the short term future). Nate and I are going over his companions time, so we can get two books done (the first year), leaving us with two to go.
I guess what I am saying, is that we can't move in until the house is built....
In other words:
You fellas get that library copied, and I will take care of the Aegis....if not, you take care of the Aegis(Vis).
I can't do both.

It looks like Some of the library will be copied by the end of the year.

Jason, I am allowing. I am waiting for the 'other' fellas to TELL me what they are doing....I am still waiting.
I noticed your spot is empty...
I am not sure, but isnt Ben playing a "Cap"?
We can discuss it as a group, but the reason for discussing it here, is to save us the "garbage time". It is much better to handle this stuff here.
As for copying the Philosophy book, sure, but who is going to do it?

)Re: Library Additions
mark i think it would be better for you to allow but but the philosophy book to to be copied by a non magi since they are able to. you should copy an art book. also m companion is granted membership in the order therefore i have two effective magi. this gives some possibillities and problems we should disscuss as a group.

)Re: Library Additions
Nate, I agree with Dave. I think we are much better off with Tactatus at this point.
Dave, I think we need your Tractatus first, before we need your spells...
I have a pretty good idea that Swampy is going to copy one of the Summa books the first year.

Nate can write a Tractatus on Rego.
Dave, can do your Tractatus on Corpus.
I will copy the Philosophy Summa.
I have not gotten any ideas from
Ben
Jason
Jonah
If i don't hear from them otherwise, they will copy our Summa the first year (if they have the write latin at 5). This will take them three seasons, but it will get everything but the Auram and the Demon Lore book copied. This of course will eliminate their obligations for two more years.

Folks,
I have reassinged some points. I removed some things from my earlier post about what I can add to the library. That's why it says "EDITED".
Carry on,

)Re: Library Additions
Nate,
Regarding the Rego & Terram summae you propose to write. I suggest you write Tractatuses (Tractati?) instead. At the levels we're writing at, a Tractatus is much better.
Look at the Terram Summa. Reader gets 11 exp in one season, but cannot go past level 4, "wasting" one point. Reader can go from 0 to 4 in one season's reading.
However, someone with Terram higher than 0 wastes even more. If he has a 4 or higher already, he gets no value from it at all.
If it's a Tractatus, anyone can get 11 experience from it. That can even take a reader at 10 to 11 in Terram.
So, until we get much better Art scores, and can write books at least level 6 plus, I think Tractati are better.

Dave,
I can't crack, until I know what everyone can DO. If a character can't write stuff, he is going to be slogging around collecting Vis, in the lab distilling it, or helping those that can...but I cant Make him write something....
Come on folks, lets us know what you can do...(like the Bumble!)

)Re: Library Additions
Nate, thank you for getting the ball rolling.
I suggest we all follow Nate's example and post a list of books we're willing and able to create for the new library.
We could then see overlaps, and vote on popularity.
(For example, if five of us can write a Rego tractatus/summa, but only one of us can write one for Imagonem, I suspect the Imagonem will be more popular.)
Mark:
As librarian, I suggest you crack the whip and assign who will write/copy/whatever each season for the next year or two, interruptions allowing).
Books I can produce (all Quality = 7 exp per season):
EDITED
Corpus Tractatus
Muto Tractatus
Copy 7 Summa points per season
Write 100 levels of spell Library Copies per season
Copy 60 levels of spell Lab Texts per season
Spells I would be happy to add to the Library:
EDITED
Purification of the Festering Wound CrCo20 (+9 to wound recovery rolls)
Gift of the Bear's Fortitude MuCo25 (+3 Soak)
Disguise of the Transformed Image MuIm15 (change your appearance)
Recollection of Memories Never Quite Lived {Improved} MuMe5 (change the target's memory of a short span of time)

Yes, good point. I should have mentioned that. Thank you for the clarification.

)Re: Library Additions
Yes, copying goes very slowly without Profession: Scribe.
In addition, Magic Theory is necessary to copy books dealing with hermetic subjects, such as Magic Theory or Arts. If you do not have access to Arcane abilities, books written have the potential to be corrupted.
A magister-in-artibus does not have access to arcane abilities, unless another virtue gives them access.

)Re: Library Additions
Gents,
This discussion emphasises one of the suggestions they make in the rulebook: Most/all mages should have a score in Craft (Scribe). This allows you to copy books much faster; the higher the better.
However, there are a lot of skills that would be nice to have, but your character build points are stretched pretty thin, especially with skills/abilities.

First year options...
I can copy the Philosophy book. This will give us two.
I can also write a Perdo Tractatus -Q:7
I would like to have one of the Philosophy books for study.
One season is open...at this point.
(Anyone): If you have a high communication, we need to have the Summa copied. You can write 6+scribe score per season...
Anyone? It would likely take anyone with less than a two scribe, three seasons to copy one of our books.

)Re: Library Additions
My proposed additions to the library in the first year.
Rego Summa 5/11
Teram Summa 4/11 (i guess it's realy a 10 since thats all you can get from it)
Summa aren't as hard as i thought to writ, you write a number of levels equal to your language (latin in this case) plus your communication score. Which is 7 for me. the restricting part is only being able to write up to half your level

)Re: Library Additions
correction. you can write a number of tractus equal to 1/5, rounded up, of your art score or 1/2 of an ability score rounded up.

)Re: Library Additions
yes i have atleast 5 in those arts. i think you're correct in that you need atleast a 5 to do a tractus. note: i also have a 10 in rego.
I deffinatly agree that priority 2 needs to be coping the popular books. But this usualy takes several seasons (in chucks game it was 5 levels a season) of work by the same mage i believe (you can't pick up where someone else left off.)

)Re: Library Additions
I will be the librarian again... I disagree though that we don't need a character doing it...Look at what happened to our last Covenant, and they had a guardian (he got killed).
I think it likely that any other covenant in the area will find out that we have a couple of good books, and try to take them away. I suggest our first priority is COPYING those books. If we copy them, we will not have the conflicts that Nate is discussing. By having say, twelve books instead of six, everyone will have something to read....
Having said that, I agree that making tractatus is the next goal...
I will be creating a forum, that will LIST the library for all to view at their leisure.
Please Note: It will be a READ ONLY forum. DO NOT post there!
It everyone likes, we can make a library sign up forum for requests etc.
Nate:
you have 5's in all of these arts?
Creo
Intelligo
Muto
Animal
Mentem
Teram
Vim
(You must have a five to write a tractatus-if memory serves) ?????
