Looking to Start an Ars Magica Game
I’m looking for players in an Ars Magica (5th edition) game.
I’m thinking of a saga set in Provencal starting in the late twelfth century. Young magi are invited to join an older covenant which has grown empty over the years. I have notes and ideas on story lines that include Hermetic politics, warring factions of fairies, and of course brewing trouble with a local religious movement. Trouble that will become the Albignian Crusade.
Of course, I am more than happy to incorporate player ideas. Or maybe set the game in the Rhine Tribunal as described in Guardians of the Forest. Or do something else completely if the players have better or other ideas.
I like to use the Alpha Story Guide method, and am happy to let others SG. In prior sagas we’ve divided story lines or regions of the game among different SGs to good effect. (Meaning, one player had an idea for a series of adventures involving diabolists, and another wanted to run mundane politics. They each had opportunity to run their own adventures, and if a character was going to take action within that sphere, those players would run the resulting session.)
If you are interested, please send me e-mail at robertrodger@earthlink.net I will be limiting the size of the group to 6 players, depending on the response I get.

Okay, I've decided to switch to a weekend game, but I might not be able to do that until after the holidays. I would, however, like to set up a time to start meeting and getting to know interested players.
I know people are likely to have plans, but perhaps even something the Saturday after Thanksgiving at the Studio (if it's available)-- a sort of meet and greet perhaps over light board or card games. If you're interested let me know. Otherwise, I'll try to work something else out.

Weekends would be alot better for me, and probly most people here.
Yeah, I'm hearing this a lot, and haven't heard anyone say that weeknights (any weeknight) works for them. So, I'm going to have to take a little time and work out if I can get free on a weekend.
I'll let people know.

I would prefer to play on Monday nights, in a location to be determined* from perhaps 6-10. I recognize this may not be feasible, and am willing to reconsider, although I probably won’t be able to game reliably on the weekends until after the new year. (In retrospect, perhaps I should have waited until then to start this.)

I'd love to join the game. My only problem is availability on week nights. I can get out after 8:30-9:00 but not before. (Kids, the little buggers). Weekends would be alot better for me, and probly most people here.

I didn’t want to give too much information until I knew what sort of response I’d get.
So, for an introduction, I have run two Ars Magica games over the past three and a half years. The first one ended when the group membership got hit by a series of life-events (law school, babies and relocations mostly). The second one was still going strong when I had to move. (And some of us are continuing it through a wiki page.) So I do have experience getting a campaign both up AND running.
I am definitely interested in running a long-term game, one that could see serious development in our magi characters. I prefer to play shorter sessions, maybe three or four hours regularly, with each session being self-contained, but reflecting the over-all plot lines. This, combined with Ars Magica’s troupe style role-playing, makes it easy for individuals to opt out of any given session.

Hey!
Can you tell us more???
Where are you planning to run?
When are you planning to run?
How often are you intending on running?
Is this game going to be a series of adventures and end, or is it going to be a long campaign?
Our group has had several ARS games, and all have ended... relatively quickly. I ask, because I feel your safety is of primary concern...
