May Game-a-thon Thoughts

I was there for both slots of the May Game-a-thon and found it to be very well attended. The afternoon featured several games, but was dominated by the rising interest in Heroscape. Eric had *three* tables of players.

I, on the other hand, ran Carcassonne and had two players. I bought the game a few years ago but never took it out of the shrink-wrap until committing to put it on the schedule. I wish I opened it years ago when people were still keen to play it. I like the game a lot. It plays at about the same level as Settlers of Catan, but is very different in play.

The afternoon also featured an excellent minis battle run by Steve Keyer that looked great. The FCS crowd was there as was Mike Haggett's Prophecy game. Nick and Bill played a two-player game that reminded me a lot of squad leader but with much better production quality and playability.

In the evening, the attendance dropped a bit, but there was still a lot going on. We had a full Manifest Destiny, a full Twilight Imperium and some role-playing that was not on the schedule. Two board games didn't go off, but that is often the case when there are four on the schedule.

It's a shame that the next Game-a-thon won't be until June 23rd. It's always nice to see the crowd and enjoy the Studio.

Thanks John

Great job getting an AAR precedent going, John. It's one of the good things that I see on other game groups' sites that never happened here. Look forward to further reports, especially for the events I can't attend.

That game

that Bill and I were playing was Combat Commander: Europe. Yes, Kinda like a simplified, card driven, Squad Leader. Constantly drawing cards for different reasons: all die rolls!, determine a random hex, events, orders/actions, combat, etc.. Card functionality wise, it reminded me of Blackbeard, but better.

Lots of Fun.

Hooked

From watching you two play I got hooked on that game and am scouting ebay for a cheap copy or I'll just get one at the store. If anyone is interested in trying it out / playing a game give me a shout.

Speaking of Blackbeard, I have that and haven't played it in years, but a game of CC comes first Smiling

I Too Am Intrigued

I am also interested in learning/playing Combat Commander. Perhaps we can get a couple of games of it going during open gaming on a Friday night at Zombie Planet.
