Save the Date - Council of Five Nations: October 10-12, 2008

()

It's that time of year. The 'ol Council of Five Nations machinery is starting up once again.

We'll have our 31st Council this year, October 10-12.  Council is one of the oldest gaming conventions in existence.  Here's the ad we ran in Dragon Magazine #10 for Council II, back in 1977:

Gary Gygax as a Guest of Honor!  $6 entry fee for the whole weekend!  Those were the days...

We're currently looking for volunteers to run games.  If you'd like to help us out with one (or more!), we'd love to have you.  Not only can you get free entry, but we've got a special T-Shirt incentive this year... but only if you get your games in promptly!  Please check out this page for more info:

Even if you're not interested in GMing, you can keep tabs on all the latest Council info here:

We will be updating this page regularly.

Over 1,000 of you will be receiving a postcard from us over the next few days.  It asks that you mark your calendars now - save Columbus Day Weekend (October 10-12).  That's about two-and-a-half months away.

Please feel free to forward this email to your friends (we offer discounts for group registrations of 3+).

Please feel free to bring your kids (students get in half price, and we offer a whole event track of "kid friendly" games).

Please feel free to plan a road trip with your whole college gaming club (the group and student discounts stack!).

Looking for Games & GMs for the Summer Game-a-thons

()

We're recruiting GMs for the Summer Game-a-thons
(July 19th, August 9th & September 13th).

We have been seeing many of the same people GMing every month at the SWA Game-a-thons, and we appreciate their enthusiasm and dedication. But we would love to mix it up a bit and see some new people, or those haven’t GM’d in a while, step up to the plate.  Hopefully this will result in different games being run and maybe even bring in some new gamers.

The July 19th Game-a-thon is coming quickly so we need to get started. Can you help us by running a game?

As you know, each Game-a-thon has two 5-hour slots:
11:00 AM - 4:00 PM
5:00 PM - 10:00 PM+ (games can run later, no problem).

As usual July will probably have:
  • FCS D&D in the morning
  • Historical Miniatures in the morning
  • RPGA D&D potentially running both sessions
  • and Conan RPG in the evening.

But we're specifically looking for GMs to run:

Eurogames! A pair of shorter Euro games, especially for the 11am time slot, would be great. With the intent of both in the one 5-hour.  Ideally, we'll have one established, popular game, and one newer game, but this is not mandatory - just an idea.

An "Avalon Hill Classic" for the 5pm slot, something like Advanced Civilization, Age of Renaissance, History of the World, etc.

Or anything else that you'd like to run in July.  Maybe a new game or one you haven’t seen run at an SWA event, especially if it is popular.

If you would like run an event fill out the form here:

If you would request a specific game be GM'd by someone else you can do so here:

Also, don't forget that July is a Swap Meet month.  Bring some stuff that you'd like to clear off your shelves. Or, bring some extra money to buy stuff to put up on your shelves!

Photo Album up-and-running on the SWA Web Site

()

You've been asking for it for years, and we've finally got it implemented!

Jarrod, the SWA's designated Photo Czar, has started posting pictures on the web site.  So far, he has Council of Five Nations pictures dating back to 2001.  If anyone has any other pictures they would like posted on the site, please feel free to get them to Jarrod or any other SWA czar so that they can be given to Jarrod.

Jarrod asks that the photos to be saved in digital format onto a CD-ROM or DVD+R disk.  He is also asking that fellow gamers feel free to take pictures at monthly Game-a-thons or other SWA events to be posted on the site.  These photos will convey what the SWA has to offer to the gaming community and hopefully will increase attendance at both the Game-a-thons and Council of Five Nations.

You can see the current photo offerings here:
http://www.swa-gaming.org/image

Or, click the "Photos" link on any page of the SWA web site.  It's located in the horizontal menu in the darker-shaded bar below the title and ad banners.

Army of Ireland, a new game published by SWA Member Dave Cuatt

()

SWA member David Cuatt announces the release of his newest game by Fiery Dragon Productions: Army of Ireland, The Battle of Ridgeway 1866. Special thanks to all the SWA folks who helped in the development and playtesting of this game.

Army of Ireland is a tactical level recreation of the historically significant Battle of Ridgeway, where encroaching Fenians (Irish-American ACW veterans) clashed with spirited Canadian militia in what is now Ontario.

You can get a lot more details about Army of Ireland here:
