Game-a-thon: Saturday, April 14, 2018
We're meeting at Proctors in the Hearst Education Center (a.k.a. the basement area).
The primary entrance to this space is a staircase next to Proctors Box Office.
Flea Market TimeOnce per year, at the April Game-a-thon, there will be a Flea Market area at Game-a-thon where people can set out game stuff they want to sell. This is meant to help gamers thin out their hoard and not really intended for full merchant setups. You can have a table for free to set out your games. We'd appreciate it if you'd let us know in advance that you want a table (either send an email to game-a-thon /at/ swa-gaming.org or use the online registration form). Morning Session ( 11am - 4pm )
Evening Session ( 5pm - 10pm+ )

Silent Auction for games from the Wargo Estate |
Submitted by DC on Sun, 12/17/2017 - 22:33.
()
Hello SWA Community, In previous messages, we told you about our efforts to inventory all the gaming treasure in Tom Wargo's game collection. We announced that our goal is to sell it all in one batch to a used game dealer. After some extended discussion, we've changed our minds on that plan. SWANews, our email newsletter, has about 1,000 subscribers around the Northeast. Why not give our membership a chance to purchase lots of items from the estate at a discount, and hopefully bring in more money for Tom's family? WHAT'S AVAILABLE? There are over 2000 items, separated into 39 lots. Here is a brief, top-level summary...
This is just a quick summary. For more details, please click to go to the page on the SWA web site. Link: http://www.swa-gaming.org/wargo-estate THE BIDDING PROCESS We will have three rounds of "silent auction" bidding via email. You are all invited to participate, game dealers included. Please see the page on the SWA web site with more details on the bidding process. OUR GOAL : "WIN-WIN" Let's assume "street value" is the full price you would currently pay for an item on eBay or Board Game Geek. We expect the game dealers will bid around 40-50% of street value for each lot (We understand they need to make a margin to stay in business). If the final bid is closer to 75% of street value, we see that as a win-win. You win by getting some quality game merchandise at a significant discount over what you would normally pay. Tom's young daughter wins because she gets more money for her college fund. I'M INTERESTED - WHAT'S THE NEXT STEP? Please click here to go to the page on the SWA web site where we have the whole process outlined in greater detail. Link: http://www.swa-gaming.org/wargo-estate Please also click here to download the compressed ZIP file with the full line-by-line inventory list in two formats (Excel and PDF), and other related documents. Link: http://www.swa-gaming.org/Downloads We expect the first round of bids to be in by Thank you for your interest. And thank you for helping us get as much as we can for the college fund of Tom's daughter. |

Many thanks to the whole SWA community. In just a few hours you helped us identify all the mystery counters. Game 1 & Game 4 both belong to SPI's _The Fast Carriers_. Special thanks to Bryant, Haggett, Johnson, Landry & Kollmer for their quick replies. Watch this space for an update very soon on the sale of the Wargo game collection. Happy Holidays! |

Help Us Identify the Counters for 3 or 4 Games |

Hello SWA Community, You have seen a few messages from us about the passing of Tom Wargo, and our efforts to help sell his game collection. Please know that we are very close to announcing an opportunity for all of you to bid on up to 39 different lots of items. But before we do that, we need to tie up a few loose ends. First off, we have a bunch of orphan wargame counters we'd like to re-unite with their parent games. We are hoping you can help us with that - wisdom of the masses and all that. Game #1 This game looks like it's set in the modern-era, with lots of counters for planes and ships. USA is blue, Japan is gold, and the Soviet Union is brown. The Japanese planes have WW2 names, and we also see counters for jets and helicopters. Here are three photos. ![]() ![]() ![]() Game #2 This one is clearly WW2. Russia has tan counters, and Germans are green, with SS counters in black. Notice how both Stalin and Hitler are represented with their own counters with a "1-8" value. One photo: ![]() Game #3 This one is a bit tougher. We see counters with four color schemes. Black on green, black on red, black on lighter-red, and white on red. We see various examples of standard military unit symbology, and some other counters that might be leaders or something. One photo: ![]() Game 4? These counters might go with one of the three games shown above, or they might be for another game entirely. They seem to not be military units, but record-keeping markers of some kind. Grey and green. Two photos: ![]() ![]() CAN YOU HELP? If you can help us identify any of these games, please email us at wargo-bids /at/ swa-gaming.org (Please replace the /at/ with the typical @ sign. We apologize for this anti-spam measure). More news on your chance to acquire some of the Wargo treasure real soon. Thank you. |

November Game-a-Thon Event Schedule |
Submitted by ericpaperman on Thu, 11/02/2017 - 12:14.
()
Game-a-thon: Saturday, November 11, 2017Three of our Gamemasters have had to cancel their events. We have a lot of games on the schedule for this month; it would be great if we could see enough players turning up to fill them. And we hate seeing a lot of blank spaces on the sign-up sheets. We'd like to encourage people to sign up for games ahead of time using our online registration page or by sending us an email at game-a-thon[at]swa-gaming.org. As a special incentive all the people who sign up (and GMs) will have their names entered into a drawing for a door prize ($10-15 value; one winner per 25 people per session; must be present to win; registration deadline of 6pm on 11/10).
We're meeting at Proctors in the Hearst Education Center (a.k.a. the basement area).
The primary entrance to this space is a staircase next to Proctors Box Office.
Morning Session ( 11am - 4pm )
Evening Session ( 5pm - 10pm+ )
